Baby Davis wants to play for Jazz

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Mon Jul 13, 2009 12:28 am

Hoopsworld.com is reporting that Baby Davis wants to sign with Jazz for mid-level exception. He is a restricted free agent. Sign and trade him and Perkins for Boozer and then let Millsap walk unless you can trade him to OKla city for a future #1 pick. Jazz would not be that good of team but would not pay luxury tax and will still be a playoff possibility.

Id rather trade Boozer for someone like Hamilton or Prince then move AK-47 to PF letting Millsap go as well.

Jazz lineup if they Baby Davis:

PG Williams Maynor Kruger
SG Brewer Korver Miles
C Memo Perkins Kosta Fess
PF Davis Perkins Kosta
SF AK-47 Korver Miles Harpring

Predicted record 45 wins
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Dude! If this is true I am sooooo pumped. I wanted the Jazz to draft him and if he WANTS to come here for the MLE. WIN!

In that scenario, the Jazz would be better off sliding Memo to PF and starting Perkins at C, then having Davis be the backup PF/C.

This was in one of the local Salt Lake papers yesterday....I like the idea of replacing Millsap with him, with only paying the MLE, but I think youre dreaming if you think Boston will not only not match him, but part with him ALONG with Perkins, for Boozer.

Theres no way that will happen.

I think Celtics can see Garnett and Boozer co=exist. I just dont know if Jazz would be a better team with Perkins and Baby Davis. Better defensively yes, offensively DWill will have to score alot!

Also, I might be wrong but I dont think that you can trade someone along with a signed and traded player.

I have seriously lost faith in this board if anyone on here is actually excited about Baby Davis over Milsap. He is only noticed because he is on the Celtics. He is easily the least athletic PF in the League. Milsap is head and shoulders ahead of him, and even Milsap is a backup. He is a $2-3M player. Seriously, no one in the league is interested in signing him at the MLE.

How can you say he is unathletic? Have you never watched him play?? Just because he doesnt jump doesnt make him athletic...hes a huge guy who has great hands (is a much better shooter than Millsap), and moves very well.

I agree Millsap is better, but you are completely underestimating Davis.

Millsap is better than both Baby Davis and Loozer but not by much. They all have deficiencies in their games. Good trade for Celtics as they have Rasheed to make up for loozer's lack of defense. Celtics, I do it for sure. Jazz only if thats all that I can get.

Loozer cannot go to training camp with Jazz as too much of a distraction. It also sounds like players would miss Millsap over Loozer as well.

Simply, Jazz not going to get alot for Loozer and I dont think they should match Millsap offer. So trade makes some sense but I prefer Hamilton or Prince as this team needs veteran championship leadership.

Davis to Utah would make some sense but Utah letting Milsap go makes no sense.

Boozer isn't a great fit for Boston and no way they would include Perkins who is a great defensive center and makes 4 million bucks. I guess they would have to listen on a total salary dump but nothing involving Perk.

I know there are questions about what he has left. But something like Harpring and CJ Miles for Davis and a pile of expring dung would be attractive to Boston. Baby is BYC so it will have to be a deal of about 10-11 mil in salary. Scalabrine and Tony Allen aren't much but they wouldn't hurt the Jazz and may give them about as much as they would get from Miles and Harpring anyhow and you could add Davis. Boston has some young guys of interest if little value they could also include. The thinking being Boston could tell Harpring to chill until DEC and get well and be ready for the second half and post season.

I know Miles was a starter last season how much does he play into Utah's plans?

Good question. Based on what I saw in games I don't understand why he got so many minutes. He must be one hell of a practice player.

Not a terrible trade. It is a good starting point. It would be nice to get him and still bring Millsap.

Glenn "Baby" Davis: You all got to be kidding me. Boston loves him so much they just went out and gave an aging PF (Wallace) the money that Baby was wanting. If Glenn was anything more than a $2-$3M player he would have signed with OKC, Memphis, NYC anyone. But he hasn't and no one has seen him in any discussions either. GM's see him as a mediocre backup, and a great back up to your back up. Seriously, Leon Powe was the backup in Boston until he got injured.

This is a ridiculous thread.

And the guy who thinks Milsap is better than Boozer. C'Mon! I dislike Boozers antics like everyone else, but he is hands down the better of the two. GM's make bad moves from time to time, but they know what peoples market value is. To get a guy away from a team they know you have to overpay by about $2-$3M per year. Look, Milsap is a $5-$6M a year player and would be today if Turkoglu didn't change his mind. Boozer will get $12-$15 per next year by someone and the market will bear out the difference in value between the 2.

^^ Pretty much spot on, but I don't know if Boozer gets 12-15 million next year. You never know though, all it takes is one team, especially once teams miss out on Wade, Lebron and Bosh. Boozer might be the recipient of a team looking to make a "splash" on a second tier FA.

I agree with the two posts above me, except blackham is a bit too harsh. The MLE for Davis is way too much. He's probably worth up to 4 mil per year and he wouldn't be a bad pickup for that price. He doesn't really do anything that well, but he is a banger down low, which is something Utah desperately needs.

Let them keep Davis, I'd rather have Leon Powe, and IMO it isn't even close.

Latest buzz is that Detroit likes Boozer (in spite of rejecting the last trade proposal) Boston likes Rip and are trying to move Ray Allen. Boston also has expressed interest in Miles and possible Jazz interest in Davis.
Soooo....maybe something like:
Detroit gets Boozer, House, Perkins
Boston gets Hamilton, Miles, Kirilenko
Utah gets Allen, Davis, and "filler"

Note: These salaries don't match so perhaps a 4th team would need to be brought in to help it sort out. In any case discussions and interest abound. Its just a matter of finding something that will work.

Actually davis doesn't look like a bad alternative. He played 20min this year and got 7pts 4reb, while playing with three HOFs. Millsap last year played 20min and got 8pts and 5.6reb. Not really a huge difference.

Edit: Also, this guy produced decent numbers in the playoffs when garnett was gone...

So Detroit gets Boozer and Perkins for Hamilton? I don't see it happening. Maybe Boozer and House--if they are lucky. I think if something like you are saying were to happen it would be like this:

Detroit In: Boozer
Boston In: Hamilton
Utah In: Allen

The extra stuff just muddies up the entire deal, especially from Boston's end.
