I'm wondering if there is anyone left in the world that thinks gerald green can be a good NBA player,

id kind of would like to see the celtics take a chance on him because he has such great talent, could he pull it together if he was brought into a situation where everyone around him was busting there ass and working towards a championship?

would being brought into a situation where everyone is sooo motivated wear off on him and in turn improve his work ethic?

if he could mature, and find the motivation to be the best player he could be; he would be ten times better than JR or Bill

I wouldnt be totally against this experiment, but only under the right conditions

primarily if we pull off some kind of trade that nets us a reliable back up for pierce and allen that ends up costing us JR or Bill or both; in that situation i would be extremely excited to have Gerald as a 13th 14th or 15th man on this roster, maybe even higher than that

well the guy with the SN Gerald Green fan or whatever his name is thinks so. But I don't. I don't think he has the smarts or savvy to do well in the NBA. And his great talent is largely limited to his jumping ability. He isn't that strong or that laterally quick. The pre-draft workout numbers didn't love his athleticism.

People think that so and so can jump so therefore he is a great athlete. What about footwork, balance, lateral quickness, hand eye coordination and body control. Paul Pierce is a MUCH better athlete then GG despite having far less jumping ability.

I will never understand how jumping ability became the ultimate test of athleticism. It's just not good way to measure it. Yes nice vertical leap..but what about the other results. <g> For my money I think Kedrick Brown was the better athlete. Too bad he was as lazy as they come..

HAHA. Green f***in Green. No thanks. He had his shot. One thing I didn't like about Green was that he had great jumping ability, but couldn't rebound or block any shots.

I am not against getting Green back. He is older with nba experience like he just got drafted out of college. It shouldn't be underestimated. We can ask him to forget offense and start working on defense. It can be taught.

Green in Boston wouldn't work, awful fit right now.

And yes, I still believe he can be a good player in the right situation, but he needs to be utilized as a jumpshooter as opposed to a slasher. He's not a good finisher for his leaping ability, and can't handle the ball well enough to slash effectively, he can however still shoot the ball effectively...just needs to work on that shot selection a bit...

With how good his jumper is I don't see why he can't find a role that he can excell in over the next few season. Maybe the poster above can help me but why are Gerald shooting eficency #'s so low I didn't expect him to shoot so poorly the last few seasons. BTW back in 06-07 he had a pretty decent year ececially when he would start games. I wonder how he would of progressed on a vet championship team of last year rather then Minny.

1. Inconsistent playing time. There's a statistical correlation between inconsistent minutes and subpar shooting numbers. Gerald shot his best when he was a Celtic playing regular minutes in 06-07, and its not coincidence.
2. Role. He was generally given the ball, then told to go score as the primary guy on the second unit. This meant him trying to drive, which usually meant him settling for a pullup midrange shot because of his inability to get to the rim, or him getting stripped.
3. Poor shot selection. He often tried to do too much when he got playing time, perhaps trying to prove that he belonged out there. In result, he forced shots that even the shot happy GG we know wouldn't take.

He's not the all around star people want him to be, and when he and the guys coaching him realize that he'll be better for it. He's a good shooter coming off screens or waiting for the open 3 kickout, but he's inefficient when creating for himself. He played with the Mavs starting unit for the most part during preseason and looked awesome doing it, he was basically relegated to being nothing more than a shooter and he was putting up some very nice numbers. In a role like that I have no doubt he can be a productive player in the league.

I love Gerald, I use to think he was the next T-Mac until I realized I could dribble better how many palming violations did he get a game???? I hope he makes it somewhere though!

He's been in the league 4 years now, it's to the point where the only teams that should sign him should be ones where he can contribute as a rotation player. Should there actually be any of those. 4 years of NBA coaching, he isn't a prospect any longer. Signing him to 13/14/15 is just a waste for the Celtics, they can't send him to the Dev League, much of the season is spent travelling with little practice time, he's just not going to get better that way.

I have the same opinion this year as I did last. He should either sign in Europe or directly with the D League, and spend an entire year on the court. Then think about coming back to the NBA.

Its a silly idea to even suggest Gerald should ever come back. The kid didn't show anything. What's next are we going to bring back Telfair?

It goes back to people over-hyping the draft. People love bargains, and we want to feel like we were smarter than everyone in getting Gerald. We were stupid in drafting him. He slid for a reason.

Green fooled a lot of people. As late as when he was traded to Minny, the thought by them was they received great value for KG because the organization thought they were getting 2 future all stars in Big Al and Green.

haha, I thought he could develop into TMac status as well ... he had the size, jumper potential, and athletic ability ... but oh well, no reason to hate on the kid. Some players just dont work out. He'll be a servicable bench player later in his career.
