They announced that they weren't going to be participating in summer league a few months back. At the time it was stated as not being the best use of resources at this point in time for the franchise.

I'm not really worried about Teague not playing Summer League this year. I've always thought summer league is worthless for 1st round picks and the quality of the players and officials are just bad in general.

I agree with that sentiment. Players can get plenty of work in scrimmaging here. I do miss have something to watch, but I heard rumor they were going to stop free streaming. This week is particularly rough being the slowest sports week of the year.

I think Charlotte doesn't have a summer league team but they had Henderson playing for a different team. Sort of curious why the Hawks aren't doing that with Teague. Though I have often thought that summer league was just giving the hardcore fans some red meat to tease them for the season.

I think you'll also see many teams filling the minimum number of roster spots. Never really understood the point of paying guys ~500K just for practice. You can always call-up a D-Leaguer for 10 days (later in the season).

Re: No Summer league for Us?
I haven't ever understood the point of a full summer league roster- I would think you would want 3 teams banding together to each send 3 players to a team. Hell- let an agent pay to get his UDFA to fill out the rest of the roster.
But Confirmation bias is a pretty big benefit to teams in summer league I think. If Teague went out and tore it up then there would be headlines in the AJC to get people excited- if he did poorly then no one would really care. If Gardner showed a nice 3 point shot and was getting to the rim at will its cheap headline that gets you in the paper. No clue what it would cost to send 3 players to summer league but I have to think its pretty minimal for the exposure.

If a player excel in summer league, some people will say it's just summer league. If a player is awful then they will say the same thing. There's no point in summer league when they can achieve the same goal with practice.

You can just look at different boards right now and already see people putting way too much stock into it. Last year the Bulls board almost had a melt down because of how poorly Rose played while Beasley and Chalmers played well.
My take on SL is that 80 percent of the guys are trying to showcase themselves to get a decent European contract or possibly be the 15th man of an NBA team. Just about all these 1st rounders(w/ the exception of guys like Mullens/Holliday)were able to excel vs college competition in games that had far more structure and importance. I would put no stock into a guy like Derrick Rose struggling in SL..or if it was the other way around when Shelden was destroying the SL a couple of years ago(as if he didn't do the same thing vs similar comp at Duke).
