Any chance us working a trade with Orlando? The Magic also signed Bass from Dallas.

Aren't the Magic interested in Wafer? If so, Gortat for Von Wafer. :D

I hope we do not get Von Wafer.

Gortat (and maybe add JJ) for Battier?

We couldn't trade Wafer without it being a sign and trade and using most of the MLE, which I don't think Morey is willing to do, but who knows.

Didn't Gortat say that the reason he did not want to come to Houston was because he didn't want to play under Yao's shadow, or have the burden of "replacing" Yao?

if that is the case, then do you really want to trade for a guy who shies away from a challenge like that?

And JMagic3 - Nope both times to Battier for Gortat!

Not sure if he said that about Houston or not......but now he is still behind Howard...so not much difference.

We can't trade for him anytime in the near future now anyways.

Under clause 36:
If the team matches an offer sheet, they cannot trade the player in a sign-and-trade arrangement.

Under clause 80:
For sign-and-trade transactions, the initial trade which completes the transaction is obviously allowed, even though it occurs right after the player is signed. What's not clear is whether the player's new team can subsequently trade him prior to three months or December 15. While a literal reading of the CBA might suggest that such players cannot be subsequently traded, the league actually considers this situation to be undefined, and won't resolve the matter until a team actually tries to make such a trade.

Edit:
Under clause 85:
For one year after exercising the right of first refusal to keep a restricted free agent (however, the player can consent to a trade to any team except the team that tried to sign him).

For the sake of the rest of the Eastern Conference please don't trade Battier to Orlando for Gortat they will be beyond stacked if that goes down. I don't mind if it makes Cleveland or Boston & eventually LA cry though

In that case, it looks like a bad signing.

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/60559/20090714/otis_smith_discusses_decision_to_keep_gortat/ wrote:Smith did not want to lose an asset while getting nothing in return.

"He's a young center in a league that doesn't have a lot of centers," Smith said. "That's the reason he got the offer to begin with. The second thing is, why can't we protect our assets? He's been with us for five years. We have been developing him. He was ours to lose. And we didn't want to lose him."

The Magic lost Hedo Turkoglu this off-season but have restocked by trading for Vince Carter and signing Brandon Bass, in addition to bringing back Gortat.

After upsetting the Cavs to go to the NBA Finals this past season, the Magic continues to make deep financial commitments in pursuit of the team's first ever NBA championship.

"Our ownership has given us all the resources we need to do our job," Smith said. "They basically said, OK, we're in the tax, but we're committed to winning. And that's all we've talked about from day one -- what do we need to win a championship?"

It was pretty obvious what they were thinking, though I still think it wasn't necessarily a good strategy. Eh. Some dumb things end up working out. We'll see.

The Rockets aren't going to get anyone big through trade without losing Battier. The league was destroyed by 3 perimeter players last season, and he's the guy who makes life difficult for all of them. I honestly hope he gets traded to Orlando or San Antonio because outside of the Rockets they're my favorite teams plus I don't think it's fair for him to have to go through the Rockets rebuilding at age 30.

Battier and Lowry to Cleveland for Delonte West and Daniel Gibson

West is 5 years younger than Shane and allows Ariza to play SF
he is a fine ball handler and would compliment Brooks' scoring ability.
Gibson is taller and a better shooter than Lowry and is a local kid
might even be a better starting PG than Brooks

Cavs get the defensive stopper they wanted.
Shane gets a chance to win a ring.

Rockets
F: Ariza/Budinger
F: Scola/Landry
C: Andersen/Dorsey
G: Brooks/Gibson
G: West/Taylor

Cavaliers
F: Battier/Szczerbiak?
F: Varejao/Smith?
C: O'Neal/Ilgauskas
G: Williams/Lowry
G: James/Parker
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming
