OT: No interest in AI?
Even though the Pistons imploded last year, I don't put the blame on AI so much as it just being a bad situation for everyone involved. Dumars had to know that trading your PG and leader for a scorer like AI was going to disrupt chemistry and not improve them team's play in 2008-09.
Even though he's older, AI played well in Denver. In his last full season there, he even shot 45% from the field which was one of the biggest knocks against him. 45% is more than acceptable for a high-volume scorer (he also got 26.4 PPG and 7 APG.) That's a really good season! Despite his age he didn't actually show a big drop-off until last season in Detroit. His PPG in Denver went down, but overall efficiency went up (both to be expected with better teammates.) He wasn't even particularly the best player to pair with Melo, but I don't recall any chemistry issues or disruptions.
If we didn't already have a great young SG in EJ, I would be all for signing AI to a reasonable contract. There will still be plenty of scoring opportunities to go around and this team is currently not so gifted offensively.
But since we do have EJ, it doesn't make sense for us and hence the OT subject title. OTOH I haven't thought through all the teams to figure who needs a SG. I do think whoever signs him is going to end up with an immediate impact player at a bargain (as long as the contract length is reasonable.)

Re: OT: No interest in AI?
Based on what we have I'm not sure we need AI. We do need scoring but we are OK at PG and SG. If we are trying to improve our chemistry I don't think that we need to add AI to this team. If he would agree to come to the Clippers I would think he'd have to come off the bench.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Do you think AI will follow Dunleavy? Do you think he'll accept a bench role? Did you see him in Detroit?
Yeaaaaah.
Yeaaaaah.

I really don't think that AI would sign with us and based on the team we have I wouldn't want him. He doesn't really fit on this team.

He could be a good fit in Chicago to replace the points Ben Gordon brought off the bench. The Bulls would probably need to trade Hinrich for a big man first.

haha I read a quote the other day where a reporter asked what he would do if he had to come off the bench on a team. he responded, "I would retire."

Re: OT: No interest in AI?
I don't think AI would be a good fit for the team. We already have our SG in Eric Gordon, we have a good sixth man coming off the bench in Camby or Al Thornton (possibly Kaman), and if you put AI and Baron on the court together you could possibly have the worst defensive guard duo in the league. Sure they get steals, but they don't do much else besides gamble and lose on the defensive end.
Basically, he'd be an overpaid spark off the bench. I'd much rather have a smart defensive minded wing player.

That seems like a pretty good idea, he could definitely replace Gordon's points.

No thanks to AI. He's a chemistry problem with any team he's with.

Re: OT: No interest in AI?
My uncle was talking to me last week about something he heard on the radio with us and AI. Iverson may have been an intriguing addition back when we were pursuing him, but he would be disruptive now. Firstly, he wouldn't want to come off the bench, and secondly, he would want a lot of minutes. He's not worth stunting EJ's growth, and he definitely wouldn't work with Baron. I think Iverson could be a key asset to a team if he allowed himself to be. I think he could thrive in a Jason Terry type role, but he's already pouted about that. I'd like to see him make it work somewhere, but he would have to make adjustments and put his ego to the side. If he is not willing to do that, then maybe he should retire like he has said he would.

Check that, the Bulls have agreed to a one year deal with Jannero Pargo so he probably isn't headed there.

I read the Sports section of the LA Times today. Seems the writer wants Iverson to the Clippers for some odd reason.

Re: OT: No interest in AI?
Right now, the latest links with AI involves Memphis, Miami, and Charlotte. Memphis are in the middle of negotiations with AI right now, but it comes with stipulations according to Heisley via the Memphis local paper, the Commercial Appeal.

AI is also talkin to the Heat as well.

Re: OT: No interest in AI?
ugh... I got no problem with AI, but I don't think he fits well with this team at all. The guy will want a lot of minutes to play. It's gonna ruin Gordon and Taylor's development. -.- Why didn't we just do the Odom for AI trade years ago instead?

Clippers in 'very serious' talks with Allen Iverson
Reporting from Las Vegas -- Talks between the Clippers and free-agent guard Allen Iverson have been characterized as "very serious," according a source close to Iverson who was not authorized to speak publicly about the negotiations.
The Clippers have long been intrigued by Iverson, having come close to acquiring him in the past. As recently as last week, however, their interest in him was considered more of a long shot.
The Clippers were also waiting to see what would happen with their trade that sent Zach Randolph to Memphis, but that deal is scheduled to be completed Friday.
Iverson is looking at the $5.8-million mid-level exception for next season, and one of his other potential suitors, the Miami Heat, is reportedly unwilling to offer more than $2 million for one season.
Until now, the team expressing the most interest in Iverson was Memphis, but team owner Michael Heisley was quoted today in the Commercial Appeal as saying he thought the Grizzlies were a last resort for Iverson.
