there you go , thats all what we needed to hear and what i was saying
Stefanski is playing the prevent defense

they never wanted tp sign Miller(because theat will mean spnding money)they wanted to blame Miller for wanting too much money, but reality hit them right in the face , the fact is that no one wants Miller(in the money level we were talking about to start free agency), he can probebly be had for a decent price , yet they still wont do it.
stefanski is not trying to win , he is trying to save his job.

I'n not that big of a Ed Stefanski, but from what people are saying it seems like there are two good GM's in the NBA, R.C. Buford and Mitch Kupchak. Maybe Pat Riley and Joe Dumars becuase they are the only other Gm's to win a championship. Every player on the Pistons championship team Dumars acquired.

It's not Ed's fault Iggy and Brand got escalating contracts. they were going to get escalating contracts wither way, but I think he could have signed Iggy for less. I don't know the number but there can't be that many declining contracts.

Ed wanted to sign Miller for 3 years last year but Miller changed agents and that proved to be a horrible decision. The year went very bad for the Sixers so I think Ed is taking a different now, especially after Holiday fell to #17.

This team has no problem spending money. If Miller was 5 years younger this wouldn't be a problem. They are trying to build something here. You have to do it a certain way. Ed is playing his cards the correct way. He's trying to win a championship rather than just trying to make the playoffs and maybe win one round.

We couldnt put lou at PG last year because we had Miller still. Plus we needed Lou to come off the bench for some scorin punch otherwise our bench would of been really really bad. If they had traded Miller at the deadline then yes we could have started Lou at the point to see if he could do it but then we would have admitted to the fans that we are in full rebuilding mode and most of them wouldnt have been happy( I wanted us to do that because we need a top pick and no more 1st round exits with the 15th to 20th pick). Now the Sixers are screwed. I honestly think if we play Lou at the point for a full season he will give us Jason Terry numbers when he use to start. I could see him gettin between 14 and 18 a game with 6 dimes and 2 steals but also with 3 to 4 to's a game. If he can shoot around 45% and 38 % from 3 then id be happy.

I can't speak for other people, but I truly believe that the fan in some people has psyched themselves into the belief that this team truly has a chance to "win it if they are in it" next year and some years after.

When in reality, this is unlike the other 3 major sports. Teams like the Sixers don't catch fire and win titles. Not in 7 game series' and not in a sport that is so talent dominant.

You are either elite in the NBA or you are like everyone else. It is the only sport of the 4 major sports like that. In the NHL bottom seeds can catch fire. So can the NFL and baseball. Not in the NBA.

Which is pretty much my thinking. You do not fall a$$ backwards into a title in the NBA. So the only way anyone should advocate to keep miller is if they think he makes us legit top 4 in the league. (maybe you you can make a case for him mentoring the young guys, but thats a reach)

Otherwise, we should be applauding the sixers for not wasting money while at the same time taking 30mins. of game time away from our young guards.

Westbrook you are very right. Basketball is the one sport where one individual player can have a huge impact on a game.

Ed tried to win last year and it didn't work with Brand getting injured and not working out with Miller. Miller wants too many years now and the Sixers are playign for the future especially now that they got Holiday. The Sixers had to make the playoffs last year because they just signed Elton Brand in the offseason. It would look incredibly bad if they didnt make the playoffs.

It is July and its pretty much known that the team that wins the title will either be the Lakers, Spurs, Celtics, Magic and maybe Cavs. I think the sixers front office now wants to play for the future after seeing the events that transpired over the last year and I think thats the best option the sixers have if they want to win a title.

Which is why they are standing pat. Stefanski thought last year that with Brand, a maturing Thad, an improving Iguodala, and Miller that this team could take it to the next level and be a top 2 team in the east. He was wrong and now he's learned from his mistake. We should be thankful that he isn't delusional and he didn't go out and sign someone for the MLE for 5 years and set this franchise back even further. For this team to get to the next level they are going to have to take a back seat for a couple years before they can start to rise again.

It sucks, I know, but such is life under the horrible setup of the NBA CBA. Plus, I'd take a couple brutal seasons to win a championship in 5 years rather than being stuck in mediocrity for the next 10 years. Hell, even if we somehow miraculously were a top 4 team in just the east(which I think is highly highly unlikely) we'd be like a 46 4th seed, while the top 3 seeds are all 57-63 win teams. Even then the dropoff would still be huge from 1-3 to 4.

Like you said psykosacul its good the sixers are not wasting money. A lot of teams do that and thats the worst thing they can do. the Sixers had a young roster then drafted Holiday so now they are definitely playing for the future. The sixers might not win a lot this year but as fans we can see the young guys improve and which guys have a future with the team.

I'm starting to think the lottery might be a good thing. Teams don't try to get into the lottery its just that talent, circumstances, or bad luck make them a bad team. The sixers should just play the young guys, sees how they develop and who has a future with the team and see what kind of record that can acheive.

If the NBA ever changes the way things are done, then the Sixers could follow a different path to become a title contender. But right now there is no other way. The salary cap is too low, you can't ditch bad contracts, and the lottery is such a bad system. I hate that a lottery even exists.

I hate the lottery too but I hate even more if a team could lose on purpose and get the #1 pick. Losing on purpose should never be rewarded.

Teams in the other sports don't lose on purpose. Stern should say that if he thinks a team is tanking, then they lose their draft pick. Now, I know tanking is subjective, but in reality you can tell if a team is tanking.

If the Thunder for example randomly started benching Durant or Westbrook, then you know they are tanking. They can say all the BS they want about how Durant has a bruised knee or a sore hammy. They are losing their draft pick. If they don't like it? Tough, find a way to work around it.

Plus I think teams have a little too much pride than to tank. Teams in the NFL never do. Now I know the NBA is much more important on getting a top draft pick, but pride is pride all the same.

Sadly I think even if we play the kids alot this year I still think the worse we will do is 7th to 9th seed. I just dont see Dala and Brand letting this team not make the playoffs espcially when the 4th thru 10th teams are all pretty much the same.

I'm not saying the lottery is great but I think if there wasn't one then teams would just lose on purpose if there was a franchise player in the draft. In the NBA getting a franchise player can really help a team so it might not be fair for a team to get a franchise player after losing on purpose. If the NBA wants to make the league better they have to either get rid of the 8% and 10% yearly ssalary increases or get rid of guarenteed contracts. Having both together really makes a bad product for the fans.

Even with pride and the lottery to prevent such occurrences we all know there have been teams that have tanked to get higher picks. Cleveland to land Lebron and Boston when Duncan was comin out to name a few. Other sports dont work like the NBA. You cant tank in other sports as easily u can in the NBA.

Then if someone tanks, they lose their draft pick. I guarantee you if a team in the top 5 lost their pick then no one would ever have the balls to try and tank again.

Also the NBA is the only sport pretty much where one great player can such a hge impact. NFl teams don't tak becuase one player can't change an NFL too much. Also the NFL has a hard cap so every team has a chance each year by acquiring players through free agency.

I would love if Stern had the balls to do that. But he cant do that.
