Ben Wallace

Post#1 » by OBisHalJordan » Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:07 pm

Ben Wallace just got bought out. Although he had real poor performance in the playoffs coming off a broken leg, his regular season numbers were alright, even though he's a shadow of his former self. Seems like he would be a decent 4th or 5th big (if bbd comes back) for vet minimum. We could have this Wallace bros of Pistons fame of the bench...

I was thinking the same thing. He doesn't have to retire, he might still have a little bit left in him. If we can sign him and trade for Rip or Prince we'd be very deep.

Ben Wallace is done. That's why the Suns bought him out. The last two years in Cleveland Wallace just seemed disinterested. Celtics shouldn't even waste their time. I would resign Mikki Moore before I signed Ben Wallace.

I think he can at least rebound for us off the bench. I'd rather try for Joe Smith, but I doubt he wants to leave Cleveland.

Antoine Walker > Ben Wallace and trust me I don't want the Celtics to sign Antoine Walker.

Ya, if he had anything left in the tank I'd love to have him as a 3rd string big. Just not sure that he does in face have anything left. He had a very good career though, especially considering it's beginnings.

He used to hate M.L. Carr. He said that he used to play him at shooting guard. Which might be a bit of an exaggeration. Picture him at shooting guard???

We need another big. If no one else is out there for cheap, I would say sign him. He played very well when he was with Rasheed.

No. Ben is not a good player anymore. Walker is not a good player anymore. Maybe we should sign Gary Payton as our backup PG? How about Karl Malone as a backup PF. Sooner or later older players do fade away.

Of course it's not impossible, but Wallace as a Cav was talking about leaving $14 million on the table and retiring. That with a team with a pretty good chance of winning a championship. So now Phoenix has given him $10 million so that he doesn't need to bother playing. And folks thing he'll come here for the chance to get a championship for $1.9 mil or less?

If he was thinking about not playing for Cleveland for $14 mil to try and win a championship, it's really not realistic to think he'll play in Boston for less than $2 mil to try and win a championship. Just move on.

Okay folks. Ben Wallace is not that bad. How can some people compare the guy to Antoine Walker, Mikki Moore and Robert swift?? I'd gladly give him a spot on this team...he can rebound well, and play defense. If we lost BBD, I'd go after him. If he sets his mind to it, he would be a good addition to the team IMO. He played good basketball in Cleveland before getting injured...

Have you watched him play the last few years? Yes he is that bad. The Suns are hurting for size and they buy him out. What does that tell you?

I'd rather have Ben Wallace over Robert Swift. But that's about it.

Maybe he doesn't fit in well with their team...or maybe the contract was bad. Idk really. Being bought out doesn't really mean your bad either. And taking Mikki Moore and Swift over him, is pretty wack. Dude averages about 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in 23 mins over the last 2 seasons. For a 4th string big, on a championship caliber team he would be fine. If healthy and motivated I still think big Ben has something left in the tank. He would also be another tough guy to throw at Dwight/Shaq/Gasol in the playoffs for a couple minutes a game. Or would you rather throw Scal at them?

Phoenix saved like 4 million by buying them out, so it tells you that Phoenix is cheap, like we all knew. I like Wallace at the vet minimum over Big baby at 3.5 million. Wallace can still play nice defense. I thought he played KG pretty decent in the playoffs 2 years ago and still didn't look half bad last year after coming off of a broken leg.

Definitely willing to take a flier on Wallace.

Return to Boston Celtics
