No Lopez Thread

Post#1 » by JMac1 » Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:23 pm

Lol. I have given you Lopez haters 12hrs to start a thread noting his summer league performance and his last 4 regular season games. I guess you wouldn't want to do that considering he continues to grow and show how good he can be as a future center, David Thrope texted he could be an "Excellent" center. I know you guys can look at Mcgee and Jordan and watch one play from them and say how we should have drafted them. Lopez plays well and nothing??? He struggles and, head out the wagons, tar and feather and trade him, because he is garbage.

I am not saying he is the second coming, I am just saying he is better than what you haters are leading on, why do you hate him so much? I have no idea. I know it was "Just" a SL game, but when Bayless tore it up, everyone went crazy, as well as Anthony Randolph. I have heard its SL, he did what he was susposed to do...Eh? How? He was supposedly trash. He never has done anything. Only a STARTING NBA center is susposed to dominated SL with 26pt and 16 rebs!!!! Did Lopez put up these numbers last year?? No.

Slow down the Lopez hate and recognize that we have an active 7ft'r who, if he continues to grow, could bang with the Oden's, Gasol's and Bynum's of the West. Why trade Amare for Biedrins when Lopez can develope into that type of guy...........................BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ROBIN CAN SHOOT FREETHROWS!!!!!!!!!!!

Marcus Banks once scored 42 points in a Summer League game. True story. :)

David Thorpe also tweeted:

"Lopez, like most young bigs, has no plan in the post when he has the ball."

and

"I'd be excited about the 15 and 14 Lopez has, but Nathan Jawai is not as good as most centers in the pac-10."

So that's why most of us aren't getting excited about this. I hope for the best, but there's no sense in getting my hopes up at this point.

And for reference, here's the full text of the "excellent" tweet:

"Robin Lopez can be an excellent player. Does he want to be?"
Robert Sarver: "Hey Suns fans, how's my a** taste?"

Why would we make a Lopez thread when we have a summer league thread? Should we make a Dowdell thread too? A Goran Sucked Yesterday Thread?

There are no Robin Lopez haters. We all want his to succeed. But we just haven't seen anythign from him thus far. And there were other people picked after him that, on the other hand, showed good promise. That's why we are ticked, cause we are afraid our management screwed it again! But hey, I'll be so glad to be proven wrong. Hell I HOPE I'm wrong. We'll see. So far the only thing i've seen from Lopez are incredible botched dunks, dubious D and decent offense (qhen he was supposed to be terrible on O and great on D).

P.S.
Don't answer: "look at his last 4 games and SL game". I wanna see during the season and on a daily basis what he can do.

You can definitely see that Lopez has the tools. He's mobile, he's active, he can hit a free throw, he can get garbage points, he can block/alter shots ... that's about all we need out of him. He doesn't have to put up 24 points and 16 rebounds a game. I'd be happy if he's doing 10/10.

Confidence is a big thing with him, I think. I'm hoping that since Gentry is so good with rookies and those with a sensitive psyche, that he can get Lopez feeling like he belongs in the pros. Although he will be "replacing" Shaq this season, I actually think there'll be less pressure, because he won't be coming off the bench right after Shaq.

I still think Robin Lopez is too mechanical. He won't be an offensive threat, but I see him making easy buckets from Nash's passes.
I'm glad to see Lopez getting better though...

Yeah Lopez is definately getting better but he still has a ways to go. He doesn't have the best of hands and is extemely foul prone. Last season he would pick up like 3 fouls in five minutes lol. But if he continues to improve throughout summer league and preseason i expect him to get 15-20 minutes a game off the bench.

Nobody started a thread about it till now cuz anybody who knows anything bout the summer league knows that it doesn't count for shiyt and isn't worth getting excited/disapointed over.

Scrubs put up superstar performances in the SL before being useless in real games all the time (off the top of my head Skita and Banks for example), while some players who wind up playing good in the actual NBA (IIRC Outlaw and Batum) play like crap in SL.

Blah blah blah. No haters here. More like realistic and not delusional.

Wake me up when he does it in the regular season games that are meaningful, not last 4 games (lol please) or summer league.

Oh jmac you were doing so well lately and then you post this shortsighted banter about 4 games and a summer camp adventure and call the entire board out? This is a time for cautious optimism for him to be servicible and you want to put him on the allstar ballot. Look at the summerleague thread if you want to get in sync with the rest of the board.

I hate it when ppl get too excited about Summer League and games which are essentially garbage time (ie. end of season/nothing on the line games).

Having said that I think some ppl on here are being too harsh regarding Lopez. I'm undecided about him but I'll say this much, our coaches did him no favours last season playing him 20mins one game and then not playing him any minutes in the next one or two games. Not sure how you expect someone to progress being given such inconsistent mins.

I'll reserve my opinion of him when I see him getting 10-15 mpg on a consistent basis. What he does in Summer League means nothing to me. IMO if you're a NBA player and you're *not* dominating (cough Dragic cough) you should hang your head in shame. It should be expected that you're quicker, stronger, bigger, smarter then guys who can't make it into the league. Yes even if you're a rookie.

For the record, dragic had a stomach flu yesterday. The last person to play well with stomach flu was Michael Jordan.
