It's "A SG..." because it's read as "A shooting guard...", not " A ESS JEE..."

And it's "An NBA..." because it's read "An EN BE EH...", not "AN NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION..."

NBA is an acronym. SG is just initials or shorthand.

Not to go full scale geek, but it's technically only an acronym if it's pronounced as a word (NATO, radar, UNICEF). Otherwise, it's just an abbreviation.

Whee! Grammar!

Wait, I always thought it was pronounced "niba."

As in ndudi?

Meanwhile back at the ranch ... or at least the trade boards ..

A UTA poster asked if anyone would turn the expiring contracts of Korver and Harpring into some cap space. Harpring is done, but Korver could play a little, and he wouldn't be scared of the winters, having played his college ball in Creighton. He used to be a reliable three-point shooter. Female fans who miss Wally might like Korver to reduce our team's, umm .. lack of a hottie.

I suggested:

Harpring + Korver for $2.1 mil TPE + Cardinal + Madsen

... but I don't know how much 2009 cap space they need. They may not either, but if they keep Milsap (as they should) and have to sign-and-trade Boozer, it looks to me like they'll have lux problems.

I'm sure nobody here has any problem spending $2.1 mil of Glen's money, but let me ask you this? what if they wanted Craig Smith instead of our resident Mormon Mark Madsen? Would you still do that deal? I suggested lowering the protection on the UTA pick we already own, but maybe that's not necessary. Would you use assets for a one-year look at Korver?

It would be nice to at least get a 2nd rounder back, since we're doing them a favor come luxury tax time.

Lot of white guys moving around. But I'd do this deal just to get a SG on the team. This also clears bodies out of the front court.

Is Harpring's contract covered by insurance at all?

As a Creighton alum myself, I would be all for Korver finding his way to the Wolves. He is from Iowa originally, I believe, so winters won't be an issue. I always thought he was more of a SF than SG and lacks the athleticism to really guard anyone with decent quicks. This is more prevelant at the SG spot. I am not saying he couldn't make it work, but wouldn't be ideal positioning, especially without the bigs behind him to protect the basket.

Otherwise, value is great there and he would help spread the floor on offense. He hustles and would rebound and grab loose balls well enough. Overall, I would fully endorse the deal, I just think UTAH would have no part in it unless they were really tight against the cap and had little other option.

I don't think you want Simmons to play SG for you... He doesn't appear to be as mobile as he used to be.

In that scenario Simmons would be a SF and Brewer would strictly be a SG instead of a SG/SF.

Harris is looking ok in summer league. We could just sign him for the minimum; he's got decent height/length, but he's pretty athletic and a complete bruiser at that position. He's also got solid handle/defense and he's used to playing with Jonny Flynn.

Brewer? SG?

I don't know about that. He lacks the tools necessary to play SG (terrible ball handle/can't shoot).

I agree if he was to be a starting shooting guard, but I could see him being decent as a spurt minute player there (like 2-3 mins at a time)

Which is the same reason he makes a bad SF.

The key is defensively. Simmons can't guard 2's, but Brewer can. On offense Simmons spreads the floor and Brewer is your wannabe slasher. Flynn dominates the ball anyway and then our offense is post oriented, so we really don't need much ball handling on the wing.

There we have it.

Brewer makes a bad SF/SG. Is there any hope? :)

What is Brewer supposed to do then? Be a spot shooter?

Morrison's averaging 22 PPG on FG 47.1% (50% 3P) w 5 RPG through four (summer league) games.
