Magic are going to match Gortat

Post#1 » by enetric » Mon Jul 13, 2009 9:21 pm

I really feel this is a must move for them lookin at what's left out there.

Sure...Mavs gave him a big offer considering how small a role he has played thus far in his career....but if you watvched this guy this past year...you can see that he has potential to play a bigger role. If the Magic could have gotten the declining Rasheed Wallace for the MLE I think that might have been better, because it would have been a shorter deal and it would have been for a more wel rounded guy. However, I dont think the Magic have the personalities to control Sheed's nonsense...and I do think Gortat could play a bigger role this year with Hedo/Lee gone and VC in. Gives them the flexibility to get more out of Rashard Lewis at the three.

Perhaps there are those who think Bass gives them same options...we'll see. They could even decide to make a trade later...bu either way....I feel VC was only a upgrade if they resolved the Rashard 3/4 issue.

Otherwise....you gave up Hedo/Lee/Gortat/Alston and you got

VC/Bass/Anderson....just not enough to say you improved your team in a beefed up East.

healthy? I still think Boston is the best team in the NBA.

If true, this is a huge move for Orlando. Gortat and Bass aren't anything special IMO, but at least now Orlando can play a more conventional lineup when they have to and have the depth to help keep Howard out of foul trouble against guys like Shaq.

I wonder how Gortat feels about this?
He really wanted a starters role and starters minutes, the last thing you want to do is match a player that on a contract that long if he is not going to be happy.

Yeah I think he wanted to get a bigger role in the team. With the Magic signing Bass and getting Anderson and the fact they use Lewis at the 4 at times as well, he's basically gonna be a back up center still instead of Dallas's starting center.

From the excerpts I read on the Magic board Gortat didn't want the Magic to match, oh well, like I said before... If it hurts the Mavericks than good for us

What's interesting was I was reading today the Maverick's had increased talks with the Bucks focusing on a trade involving Michael Redd and Eric Dampier. I figured they anticipated the Magic would not match and there was no need for Damp anymore so if they could get a shooter like Redd to add to the starting 5 of Kidd/Marion/JoHo/Dirk, they could have Jason Terry/Gortat/bag of rocks run the 2nd unit. I don't know, they lack some depth now after the Marion deal, but their starting 5 would have been scary, then with more physical teams, move Marion to the 3, Dirk at the 4, start Gortat at the 5 and have Terry and either JoHo or Redd anchor the 2nd unit scoring. It would have been an interesting dynamic to see if it worked out.

I could see him end up starting in Orlando...that is if they dont look to turn around and deal him.

How long do they have to wait to trade him? Anyone know if they can deal him right now? Or do they have to wait.

Would love to see them figure out a way to S&T for Odom....I know that is unrealistic.

I was told they have to wait until December 15th to trade him and they have to wait an entire year if they wanted to trade him to Dallas.
Also, Gortat now has the ability to veto any and all trades for an entire year.
I think they're keeping him or they had a predetermined destination for him that he approves of on a wink wink type of deal.

With Battie gone they will have more center minutes open for him.
