Fab-O
I saw on some websites that we offered Fabricio oberto a contract. He was the starting center for san antonio in 2007 when they won the ship. Averaged about 4 points 4 rebounds in approximately 15 minutes a game. HIs recent contract was worth about 3.8 mill which detroit is liable for about 1.9 mill since they apparently cut him.
I think those are the details. Gotta see if theres more to this but I see nothing of this in realgm

It is on RealGM http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/60561/20090714/wizards_make_contract_offer_to_oberto/.
I think it is a good move. He would give the wizards a guy to some in and play 10-15 minutes a night grab some rebounds and scores efficiently. I also like his versatility to play both Forward and Center.

I'm down with it as well. Certainly beats Magloire and Jason Collins. He will buy into the defense, and I'm pretty sure from what I've seen he isn't the second coming of Michael Ruffin on offense.

EG keeps crankin' out homers!
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

Not an unexpected move, and I think that means that they are done making moves for the summer, unless someone on the summer league blows up.
I am still mad we passed on DeJuan Blair.

Re: Fab-O
As I said in the free agency thread...
Love the idea of picking up Oberto. He's a smart, savvy big man who can play within a team concept. For a guy who will likely get about 10 minutes per game, he's absolutely ideal.
I wonder what the contract looks like.

Obie is a decent back up big man. He is quite nifty around the basket and will grab you a few put backs every game. Just don't expect too much from him. He'll hget ya a good 3-4 points and 3-5 rebs a game.

Honestly I hope he's no more than our 4th, possibly 5th big man off the bench. He won't be starting like he did in SA, so I don't expect much more than energy and D off the bench.

Re: Fab-O
He'd be great. On nights where Javale is looking terrible and showing his youth, Oberto can step in. He can also start if Haywood gets nicked.

Yeah, I was thinking just that too:
Oberto sits on the bench and doesn't play too much unless we're getting burned by some kind of a backup post up threat who has McGee's number. But then if Mr.H-Wood gets injured, Oberto could start for about twenty minutes a game and keep McGee's role just as it was, which will hopefully be birdman-esque as advertised by Flip and company.

He's also an effective jump-shooter. His eFG% on jumpers last year was decent at 36%. The year before, it was a remarkable 45%. It's always nice to have a guy like that in your tool kit. We may need a pick-and-pop jumpshooter to draw an opposing big man out of the paint. Oberto may come in handy against Shaq and the Cavs.
He's basically a taller version of Songaila, though with less post skills.

I certainly hope this works out. Oberto on a bargain deal would be excellent!

Re: Fab-O
Would be a great pick up. Will rebound, defender, and be good in the pick in roll. Just what we need for 15 mins a night.

Let's be objective about this. At 34 and coming off a worthless season, we don't know what Oberto has left - we just know it's not very much. And if Haywood is out for a long period, we're done unless McGee and Blatche step up.

Re: Fab-O
man if we get Oberto were going to be so freakin stacked and with all our starters in there primes and the potential of our young guys having breakout years ...we could really wind up being #1
this is the best stacked gifted bullets wizards team i ever seen... this is the closest our team has been to a Championship in a very very long time

sounds great. really hope it happens. oberto is one of the few big men available that will reduce my anger at the 2nd round pick sale. provides a nice element of toughness and dirty work will a mid range jumper perfect. he's a taller songaila, just what we need,
Until Grunfeld goes there is no rebuild.

Flopping POS. I do not support this move. Floppers are the bane of basketball existence.
