Childress to stay with Olympiakos

Post#1 » by djkadafi » Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:31 am

According to most of the greek media, Josh Childress is going to stay for another season with Olympiakos. The american small forward decided not to take up the offer of the Milwaukee Bucks for 5.5 million dollars per season and decided to stay with Olympiakos and the 6.5 million dollars contract of his for next season.

Childress didn't want to Atlanta and since he couldn't get what he wanted in Milwaukee he decided to stay with Olympiakos. The greek team will now be changing their transfer targets and probably acquire an american point guard and power forward now that they can sign one more non-european player.

Makes sense, but I'll wait for the official deadline to pass on this one.

I found it surprising as well... May be he is destined to do greater, like fathering the next Kobe Bryant.

RamonSessions, if you have nothing to offer this board you have no reason to post here. Posting one liners and only emoticons won't cut it.

It's between me and AussieBuck, I apologize for how that may appear.

I am sincerely dissapointed that Josh Childress is returning to Greece and not joining Milwaukee this season, we'll see how he plays out in his future return to the NBA, will he be a Hawk again?

Sekou just confirm it. That save $5 or $6 mil per now. If he isn't fully committed to the team then he might as well stay over there.

I don't think he'll be a Hawk again, but will the need be there for the Bucks next summer? If Alexander is forced into heavy minutes he'll either thrive or bomb. If he thrives a starting job won't be open. If he bombs next summer there will be different small forwards to choose from which might make pursuit of Childress unlikely. His returning to Greece actually might be the best thing for the Hawks as again I felt he didn't fit our lineup and if he'd forced our hands it could have hurt in terms of salary taken back in a S&T or letting an asset walk. We may be in a better position to achieve something for him in a S&T next year. Although we may never capitalize, having him return to Greece at this time seems like a minor win for the Hawks. Now we can focus on using what little room we have under the luxury tax to strengthen the front line in free agency without worrying about the Childress situation (well after the deadline officially passes).

He's as good as gone without compensated next summer if there are interested teams who can offer more than the MLE.

The questions remain -

Will there be interested teams? (Would another down year in Europe cause his stock to tumble?)
Will those teams have more than the MLE?

Best of luck to Chill this year in Greece. Hopefully he can get things turned around over there.

I will never begrudge a person for taking more money to do the same job. I have no problem with Childress.

I just dread losing him for nothing next year.

I don't understand the losing him for nothing fear. Sure if someone offers him big bucks, we don't match and he walks. I'm having trouble imagining him getting paid big bucks. I think he still has to take a pay cut to come back and unless he has a great year in Greece I think the market for him will be even softer.

We keep his rights as long as he stays in Greece. Next year will be better for the Hawks. Maybe some team will get caught up in the trading frenzy of 2010 and give up a lot for him. He needs to perform better this year for that to happen. he should be killing those guys over there.
