OT- Life changing movie

Post#1 » by return2glory » Tue Jul 14, 2009 8:10 pm

Guys, this is way off topic and probably doesn't belong on this board. But I like to share it here anyway since I feel as part of the Celtic Nation, we are like extended families. One of the greatest, meaningful movies that I've ever seen is The Peaceful Warrior with Nick Nolte. I saw this movie about 3 months ago and it has really changed my life.

It really has many positive messages and really makes life more enjoyable if you follow the principles. I've recommended this movie to about 5 of my friends and they have all thanked me for recommending this to them. I hope you guys take the time to watch it and share with with your family and friends.

From RottenTomatoes.com

Based on The Way of Peaceful Warrior, Dan Millman's best-selling spiritual memoir, PEACEFUL WARRIOR explores the highly competitive world of men's gymnastics, while introducing an astonishing philosophy that awakens the human spirit.

So, here's my question,

Was this life changing like, something like, Into The Wild, or was it life changing like something directed by David Lynch?

You got to watch it to understand it. Its a deep, meaningful movie about life. It's about inner happiness. It is based on a true story of the life of Dan Millman, a gymnast in the late 1960's at UC Berkley. It's a story about when he meets a Guru/Zen master played by Nick Nolte and teaches him about life and inner happiness.

If you watch this movie, you'll understand why Phil Jackson is the winningest coach in NBA history. Phil Jackson is a good coach, but he draws good luck his way (he coached PIppen and Jordan, Shaq and Kobe, then Kobe, Odom and was given Gasol to put them over the top). That's what can helped Jackson win some many titles and made him a great coach, IMO.

Here's 3 movies that kinda changed my life and were really great movies. "12 Angry Men" with Henry Fonda released 1957. "Stand By Me" with River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Jerry O'Connell, and Corey Feldman released 1987 I believe. "Shawshank Redemption" with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman released 1993.

I read the book a long time ago. Definitely a worthwhile read. Very practical secular humanist philosophy. Though some of its more outspoken proponents like Deepak Chopra I find to be insufferable. Millman is good tho.

Millman actually ahs a couple of "sequels" to it. Never read them myself.

Didn't realize they made a movie. Not sure how it would play in a movie... not exactly an action-packed DaVinci Code type book... but i'll check it out.

It may sound cheesy, but I'm more loving, more helpful, less judgemental, happier, peaceful. I'm also more awareness of my thoughts, I don't let things bother me, and if they do, I'm able to let it go and I don't allow it to ruin my day, even that hour or the following minute.

Maybe each person will get some thing different from it, but everyone will get something positive from this movie. It's a great movie, one that's fun to watch but more importantly it's a movie that teaches us about life. You will want to watch it more that once and even want to read the book, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, if you like reading.

so much is lost in the movie, the book is better in every respect.

also the only other milman book worth reading is:

just an amazing story, not message laden just tells socrates life story from before, although I find parts to definitely be a bit unbelievable, possibly the fastest read I've ever had.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.
