We really should try to snipe Roy in a S&T deal

Post#1 » by azuresou1 » Tue Jul 14, 2009 10:25 pm

Port doesn't want to give him any more than 4 years on a max deal; Roy wants 5 years with a player option in the 5th. He would perhaps agree to a S&T if he were signed to the desired contract.

Roy, Przybilla, and a 2nd

for

JJ, Evans, rights to Childress and Andersen, and a 2nd.

Thoughts?

No thanks, Roy & Joe's age differences are not dramatic enough. Your basically running in place with that trade.IMO I don't think either team are even remotely considering any packages with their ace boon coon players in there. It really shows you how screwed up the owners were back in the earlier part of this decade when you look at a player like Pryzbilla, he shouldn't have never left Atlanta the first time. :-?

There's a 4 year difference in age. Roy is getting better, Joe is getting worse, and right now Roy is already better than Joe. The trade also gives us a good backup big man.

i would trade jj for roy so fastttt son. JJ is a great player and one of my favorites, but hes just a 2nd option on a good team. ROY is a 1st option no doubt. top 7 player in the league

Keep dreaming. Another thread just dreaming. Love it.

Roy is the future of that franchise, hes not leaving.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Not happening from Portland's perspective. If it came down to it, we'd give Roy the 5th year before we'd trade him away. Besides, we have the right to match any offer to Roy next season as he's a RFA.

I won't even dream about Roy. We could have had him if Billy Knight didn't have poor judgment and tunnel vision. We aren't going to be able to get Roy in a deal.

I was watching the Chicago and Golden State summer league game today and they mentioned how we dropped the ball selecting Marvin Williams over Chris Paul/Deron Williams. They how badly Chris Paul wanted to play for us. After that they mentioned the Shelden Williams pick. I stopped watching the broadcast when they went on to discuss how we drafted Acie Law and how all along things would be right if we just went with Chris Paul or Deron Williams. I always find it odd that they never mention Billy Knight.

It would take much more than just JJ and fillers for Roy. Roy is much more valuable than Joe, they would definitely want Smith or Horford as well.

But if I can get Roy, I'd still do the trade.

Roy is much more valuable than Joe, but he's not worth Joe AND Smoove or Horford, or even Joe and Marvin. That move would make us worse by a fair amount.

If Portland doesn't want to give him 5 years, and he won't sign without 5 years, then perhaps we could do a blockbuster S&T and pay him the full max, while Portland would get a tremendous expiring for next summer.

actually at the time, people hated Roy as the Hawks pick. most if not all Hawks fans wanted Foye. i was the only one who had Roy #1 on my board. i wanted Roy and got slamed hard for wanting to take a SG when the Hawks had Joe, Chil, and Marvin. but when i suggested that the Hawks should take Roy, i was really surpised all the hate Roy got on the Hawks board and alot of Hawks fans at the time, rather have Shelden over Roy, because Shelden would play center.

^^^ I don't think so, Harry. A lot of us, myself included, wanted B Roy. Maybe it was a different story on Hawks Squawk? But here I remember Roy was the consensus pick at no. 5.

Flashback to that draft...we brought in Foye and Rondo to media hype and didn't consider either.
We draft Shelden after not even working him out? Man, I am glad Knight is gone.
But in that draft, we had to go with Roy, (Best available), and me personally, I would have taken a shot at Rondo.....we needed a PG so bad at the time.
Those were my 2 choices.

I remember a lot of guys saying that they wanted Roy until Billy Knight said he'd been red-flagged for injury concerns (knee?).
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Roy is a lot younger and he's better too. I'd do that in a heartbeat, but there's no way Portland would go for it.

The trade is like trying to get Chris Paul for Chauncey Billups. The players aren't that far apart in production at this point, but the value is just so different.
