I really thought that this was a bad idea. The reason this is such a bad idea is how much expiring contracts are worth in the trade market. They are like gold! People that are forced to trade star or even superstar players seem to like them alot. This year you might have that situation in Miami... if Chris Bosh signs and extention with Toronto and Miami cannot improve there team Miami might be forced to deal D. Wade because they know he will opt out. In that situation it would be great to see the suns have pieces like a big expiring contract and then fillers to throw at Miami. Not saying that will happen but just a senario that could. I just think they threw away a huge bargening chip to save some cash. This could end up being a real bad idea if the right people are availaible before the trade deadline.

I kept thinking we should pre-negotiate a buyout and use that as leverage as part of the trade. A Ben Wallace with a contract number of $14 million, with a buyout of $10 million is worth a lot more than the straight contract.

We could have sent him to CHI straight up, and still saved 4 million, but had a useful player for the year. You basically would have paid $4million for the chance to have Brad Miller on the team for the year. Then he expires next year, and we still have all of our flexibility.

J-Rich for Dalembert does save us money immediately and his contract expires in 2011 just like J-Rich's.
