Stephon Marbury told The Post last night he won't be returning to the Celtics and is eyeing Europe stronger than ever.
KNICKS BLOG
Marbury, 32, has been talking to teams in three different European countries, including Italy, the past few weeks and is growing more intrigued if a strong NBA offer does not come along soon.
The Celtics have told Marbury they are not going to re-sign him after netting Rasheed Wallace. Marbury has been using Players Association attorney Hal Biagas as his agent.
"If I have to give it overseas, I'll give it overseas," Marbury said. "I like the Europe option to bring the Starbury [sneaker] brand there and sponsor soccer players."
As far as his NBA future, Marbury said he realizes he's not in solid bargaining position because of how little he's played recently. He joined Boston in late February after sitting out the entire season in a dispute with the Knicks.
"The Knicks put me in a really bad situation, a really bad spot, so I'm still waiting," Marbury said. "Teams are still shopping."

Well if he's looking for MLE money I'm not sure he's gonna get it. Why wouldn't Boston try to bring him back at the Vet min? Is anyone gonna give him MLE money?

Re: Celts Pass on Marbury
I would like to have him back, because he can be a top notch backup PG and give security ... but with Rondo most likely getting more minutes next year, theres really no pressing need ...

At some point, teams should withdraw their offers to guys who aren't interested in signing. Marbury had his chance, and instead of signing he went off on a fishing expedition to try and see if he could get more money elsewhere. As a result, Celtics have been talking with other players, and it's not out of the realm of possibility IMO that they've extended an offer to someone else at the position. Perhaps if that doesn't work out they can go back to Marbury. In the meantime, Steph can practice his yodeling.

Re: Celts Pass on Marbury
I wanted him back, but his actions suggest the opposite of what he said a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't about the money, it was about winning a championship. Well, wanting to play in Europe is a dead give away that it is indeed about money.
You can't win an NBA Championship if you're more concerned about "going futbol" with the Starbury brand. I'll admit that it's a pretty solid business venture on his part, but he can do that after he plays 1 or 2 more years in the NBA and wins a ring...

Well, I think we all know he was about the money, and if I'm Star, I'd be in Europe. That's most likely his best financial situation. At 32, considering none of the contenders want to pay a lot for him, go on to Europe, buddy.

Thank goodness Ainge came to his senses and isn't even willing to give him the vet min.
Clearly the brass saw that the guy is done. He had 3 months with us to show he wasn't done, and he failed.
THere are better options out there for a vet min pg.

Ya I have a feeling S.M is heading to Europe since I doubt anybody is willing to pay him big bucks.

No it appears no one is going to touch their MLE on him, and I'm sure we did offer the vet. min. at least but it looks like he wants even more, very undeserevedly so IMO. We took a chance on him and helped him get out of a terrible situation in NY. This is how he repays us? Making it impossible for us to sign him? Of course we'll pass. **** him. Have fun failing in Europe.

F**ing moron.. blame it on the Knicks.. When given a chance he did nothing.. if he had played spectacular a MLE would have come from a lot of teams..
I think teams have had enough with all the Buy out drama that dragged on for just a diff of 1 or 2 mil..
Look at Antonio McDice he gave a almost 6 million in his buyout with out complaining..
Marbury deserves NBDL... period.. Ten thousand $ per year...

Re: Celts Pass on Marbury
I doubt Ainge didn't OFFER the Vet Min., I'm just pretty sure Marbs turned it down. He could make some good cash out in Europe in comparison, I'm sure. And since he hasn't displayed the PG skills he had in the past, he might be better off out there.
Does anyone know how well/poor Josh Childress is doing out there?

Re: Celts Pass on Marbury
And wasn't this dude great friends with KG? After all the money he has made, he can't "settle" for 1.3 MILLION to actually be able to see court time with him? Guy is a disgrace. He's going to go to Europe and bust like most of the other Americans that felt their value was much better than getting credit for.

From what I have read, he hates it, and is looking to come back to the US.
As for star, I think he would work out over there. His cousin, who we saw in telfairs movie, is having a nice life in greece. I know star wants to go to italy.
I would love to see him over there instead of on the wiz.

Re: Celts Pass on Marbury
Is there really a better option for the Vet Min?
I'd be leaving that offer out there saying, until we find another back up point, you can accept the vet min anytime... see if he really does pick money and europe over staying in the nba
training camp and an off-season, i think Marbs is better then anything else we would get for the min

Re: Celts Pass on Marbury
I'm guessing the C's have actually made a vet min offer to another PG. they got tired of waiting for Steph (who looked like he wasn't going to sign for the vet min anyway) so they finally pulled the offer and made it to another player.

Re: Celts Pass on Marbury
I'd take him but only for cheap money. It's clear that marbury is delusional about his skills as well as what he should make. He's a lot like Iverson in that he's a guy who needs a complete green light on offense to put up as many shots as he wants so he can get his numbers. anyhow that ship has sailed and once again fate has smiled on gabe pruitt who god knows has had multiple chances to succeed and has blown all of them

He really didn't help you guys much & I think he even hurt his stock. Didn't show much promise & too much of a risk to gamble on.

He is nearly 35 years old. It's his last chance. Just take that cheap offer.

What? All I've read is that Childress is happy, outside of some incedent when fans storm the court after a game.
In the Greek league he's scoring 13.3 points per game and in Euroleague he scored 8.8 points per game. He rebounds slightly better in the Euroleague - 4.6 against 3.6. He's playing around 25 minutes per game. Goes to show that the competition in Europe is better then a lot of people expected.
