Will We Forgive And Forget ?

Post#1 » by DEEP3CL » Wed Jul 15, 2009 6:52 am

Seeing how these negotiations have went first with Trevor and now with LO, the question is this:

Can you forgive and forget these guys once this process is done with ?

In Trev's case we knew it was orchestrated by his agent to get him from here ever since his failed negotiations in the Bynum deal in which he couldn't secure the max deal he was seeking. He was hell bent on getting Trev out of LA period.

So maybe we can forgive him in the long run, but after that he'll be just another player that comes to LA for a game on a regular NBA night.

In LO's case which is getting touchy with the fan base because of previous statements LO has made as far as "wanting to end my career in LA", now to many he's being view as a hypocrite and a liar. Years ago we were never in tuned to what was going on in the free agent process as we are now. It use to be once the season ended we waited for next season to start and became surprise when we saw a new player.

Now with how it's covered through media, it brings the fans into the process right down to the numbers being discussed. So with LO and seeing how this is shaking out do you forgive him if he stays ?

Do you forget it and just chalk it up to business as usual ?

Or does this leave a bad taste in your mouth because how this turns out weather we keep him or not ?

Don't get me wrong cash I fully understand the business part of it down to the core, I'm always for the player because the owners can afford to pay what they pay. My problem with the process now is the fact you can clearly see how the market is set, weather people want to face it or not LO isn't worth 10mil a year he too consistent at being inconsistent most nights.

I've watched how Dr.Buss has run the Lakers for a long time, he's fair to those who deserve to be compensated and he's NEVER low balled any player he's had. If I felt LO was worth every dollar he was asking for I'd be the first to support his thought.

If anything I've been surprised by the guys here who think LO should just be able to railroad the Lakers and think Dr.Buss should just cave to his demands. That's not smart business.

not just about LO and how people jump to conclusions about whats going to happen, its about ariza and all the crap he and his agent get when its pretty clear that the lakers just wanted artest more. david lee shouldn't have gone to the media AGAIN (re: bynum), but i don't think there was anything they could have done.

Can't really blame ariza, but honestly Lamar is too good of a guy to be looked at in a bitter kind of way. Still not sold that he will leave just yet, however things are not looking good as of now.

I'm sorry but if I see a player demanding X mil from my team I want to see the output worth X mil everyday barring injury or another grave circumstance. I don't buy into the notion that its fine to over pay someone because the money is coming from the owner's pocket. If you demand something from my franchise I expect you to give your effort back the same way.

No point holding grudges against Ariza and Odom until now because they've delivered their money's with with contributions towards a championship but if Bynum (who demanded $ 14 mil) and Odom (now demanding a better deal) continue to show their inefficiency at some point or another next season no loyal fan would hesitate to bring up the salary numbers immediately.

I'd "forgive" LO if he stayed, but I'm not mad at him at all.

I'd care more if Buss & the owners paid me to handle the bi for them.

But until I'm exclusive, I'll keep doing this **** for laugh and giggles.

I believe that I've been fair and objective about the whole issue w/o exposing either side.

7million wouldn't be a lowball offer for LO.. but somewhere around 8 million a year would be nice for both parties if the deal was a longterm contract.

If worse comes to worse LO can always just walk out and sign w/ another team for the MLE and try to f'k us.

If I was in Kobe or Artest's shoes I'd love that challenge.

No kidding. There is nothing to forgive. Just people doing their jobs.

Checked another forum, and it was like a bunch of girls who cried about LO not having signed and giving Odom a ton of crap. That's just immature if you ask me, and only shows lack of understanding of the process IMO.

You can't blame Ariza Deep, that's why you have agents, Mitch had Artest tapping him on the shoulder day 1, how do you not take Artest in that sit?

You give Ariza a standing O, without his fantastic playoff run who knows if we'd be celebrating the LAL championship, he, to me, was a much bigger Xfactor than LO was, LO 's play was icing. I miss Ariza already, really a sad transaction. His defense of course, but his monster threes, he has ice water in his blood. He's a good kid and he stood behind his agent and didn't throw him under the bus, which he easily could have, which shows a lot about Ariza.

I don't want Lamar back at his price. I'm shocked JBuss threw 9M on the table, that was a tough play and he played it, pulling the offer was a great move IMO, and I hope it stays that way. I almost wish JBuss would drop it to 8/24M but you just can't. I'm thinking about the future, as in next offseason when the LAL will have options, rather than throwing money at Lamar on a quick fix and a busted bank. Roll the balls out and see what happens, we have great parts and a great management team. Play ball!

Hindsight: Truly the Lakers had one solid year from Lamar on a stacked team where he finally put it all together at 30 years of age.

I thought this thread would be about Shaq...

Kobe will let Shaq come back to win a Final ring w/ the Lakers in 2011. Showing how nice Kobe is and all.

It will be fun to watch... this ONLY happens IF LA repeats.
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Can you blame the guy for trying to get what he thinks he's worth. Heck the Lakers are paying Bynum crazy money.

The problem for LO is there is no market out there for him and buss knows it. If he had one or two teams with some cap room he could easily get the lakers to pay him 10 mil per. Only team with any room is Portland (i expect utah to match milsap offer) and they don't seem interested in Odom at all.

At the end of the day I think a deal gets done. Probably at 9 mil per for 4 yrs. What I think is funny is how many LA fans are mad at odom. You all keep underestimating his value to this team. You are mistaken if you think you can replace him so easily. He's one of those guys that gives every team match up problems.

only reason why lakers havent gave him a 5 year 10 mil deal is because of the players they over paid, and kobe not taking a small 3-4 mil cut doesnt help either.

Kobe's the last player that needs or should take a paycut, but yeah the Sasha decision was terrible, not to mention Luke's lifetime deal.

at first i didn't blame LO for wanting 10 mill. But now i am because at first i thought the Lakers were only offering him 7-8 mill but instead they're actually giving him 9mill for 3-4yrs. Buss even budged and offere 10 for 3-4yrs but still LO and his agent never called.

Either his agent is being a dumbass or both of them are. The market out there will give you 5yrs but only at 5.8mil... do the math LO.

really?

Last i checked David Stern said majority of the teams last season had negative revenue. :o

Maybe LO should think about that and be grateful.

Another point here is if we did not over pay some of our other players such as Bynum, Luke and Sasha we could have given Odom a little more.
