Take away Odom and Bynum who wins 2010

Post#1 » by Dexmor » Tue Jul 14, 2009 7:06 pm

Does Gasol/Artest/Kobe have what it takes to win it all? I was so happy about Artest because now Kobe can save energy on D which he still can but hypothetically if Odom leaves and Bynum gets hurt with most contenders having a big 4-5 or an insane big 3 with a great bench something we don't have do you think we can repeat?

I think there will be alot of factors. Obviously Mitch will know without Odom they need to get some backups because Josh Powell will become a starter and the first big off the bench. Now I think they can do this by committee and hopefully get Juwan H plus Leon Powe which stupidly nobody wants and Sean May. Now if we get all 3 we will be set in backups. I would think it's obvious they would get 1-2 bakcups if Odom leaves.

Backups aside Ill stay in the starting lineup.

Gasol
Powell
Artest
Kobe
Fisher

Not nearly as deep as we thought. Still a damm good team though. If Powell improves and gells and with the starters can play good D and get 12 and 9 then we will be in pretty good shape. I think Farmar or Brown will break out. Whichever gets minutes. I hope Gasol is preparing by gaining another 10-15 pounds of muscle to prepare for the C position.

I really hope this thread can be locked within a week after Odom resigns and Bynum stays helathy.

No we won't. You can't possibly win a championship with Powell starting.

This ain't 1998-2005 anymore. You actually need stacked teams to win nowadays.

we're in the day and age where teams are stacked with franchise caliber players. In the past that was a rarity.. now we're seeing 2-3 franchise players on one team. It's ridiculous and exciting but i feel sorry for the teams that are left in the cold. Seems like the cap is only a deterent but not if the big houses are willing to cough up the money for it.

I would say we would make it to 2nd round at best if we lose LO and Bynum. LO being our main bench guy is important to spark the run that is needed while our starters rest. Although Bynum haven't been playing well.. his presence cause a traffic in the lane just like kwame brown in the past but except bynum is much better hehe.

You know I think we can still we can win.

First off 2nd round is just crazy unless the Spurs take us out because there the only one with a chance to beat us but I think we edge them out. With those 2 guys we win 80 games and 16 games in a row in playoffs but without them we could win a championship. It all becomes very competitive. We all neck and neck.

Teams not in order.

Spurs-They would have to stay healthy and we would be the favs here but only 51%. To me there the 2nd scariest team

Magic-They are deeper. We can beat them though because they are changing there whole way of playing and nobody can guard Kobe and Artest. Vince Carter? Please.

Celtics-O.K. they have KG back with Wallace now but 1 thing, Artest and Kobe kill Allen and Pierce who are another year older. Gasol will have a big problem against the D though so this one could be very very hard. They could beat us without the big man.

Cavs-They added Shaq. They were pretty good before free Shaq. One x factor though again Ron and Kobe can hold Lebron to 40% and if he struggles everybody struggles. Shaq is 38. He could get hurt.

Lakers-(Again this is worst case scenerio, odds are they he resigns and Bynum stays healthy)-Best 1-2-3 combo in the league and it's an inside outside presence to on all 3 players. They all can go in and out. Gasol is a all nba player now, Artest will be imo and Artest and Kobe are best peremiter defenders in league outside Battier plus there still the champs. I believe it'll be Lakers vs Magic again unless the Celtics have a little more left in tank then I think. If we had traded Bynum for Gasol and Artest for Odom and Ariza got hurt lets say or we just lost him with this team we would be looking at it as a contender.
It's just not a total sure thing. Granted this in no way means don't sign Odom. Give him 4 years 40 million and go back to vacation. Also I am hopeful Bynum will stay healthy and is not Sam Bowie and if healthy again we are head and shoulders above everybody else.

Yea and w/ griffin dropping a double double in his first game in the summer league, the dude is a monster.... imagine what he's going to do @ 6-10 in the regular season... :o Bibby, Randoph, Camby, Gordon, Thorton Griffin AND you add Iverson?

Too bad there's only one basketball

We are still contenders IMO, just not the favourites anymore. This is basically the team in 08 without Odom, but instead add Artest. The biggest problem for this team would probably be interior defense, I mean Powell and Gasol? I'd probably start Mbenga next to Gasol

Isn't Mike Bibby a Hawk?

But Griffin did look good. I hope he's the real deal.

I actually hope the Clips don't sign AI. Do what Portland did, keep drafting good young players and weed out the bad apples. They have a solid young core there (Gordon, Thornton, Griffin, Kaman).

Too early to tell, rosters aren't even set, cuts, etc, small trades or signings.

Celtics vs Spurs if no Odom.

Whoever gets homecourt will win the 2010 NBA Championships.

Lakers will lose to a motivated Spurs team in Western Conference Finals.

Odom is that important.

With Odom there is no guarantee the Lakers get past the Spurs.

He needs to be signed pay him the extra year and lets move on.

This is an opportunity to win 2 to 3 more titles in the next 3 years.

Up the ante again Dr Buss.

After winning two more titles then trade Odom if you are mad at him now.

Sign Odom

WTF..

I think a more legitimate question is if we take away the basketball who wins at soccer..

My answer would be Kobe's daughters..

Even if you lose Odom the Lakers will replace him with serviceable players. Bynum is the tougher one to replace because not that many bigs out there. He is a perfect complent to Gasol when healthy. You still can't under estimate the drive of Kobe. By far the best player in the league.
