I don't really consider either of those great options but Drew Gooden would be better than nothing. Definately not the most "fleet of foot" forward.

What do we have left to spend?

LL exemption? Bi-annual?

i heard this too. neither one is anything like Odom though.

I'll still hold out on the idea that Odom is leaving....there's still time.

It's still likely Odom stays.

I do think that Gooden with upgrades to the rest of the bench is equivalent or better than Lamar. Gooden at 1.25m would be a good value certainly. Not Lamar to be sure but not a guy who will be destroyed by a weaker offensive player (usually the other team's C). I would sign Gooden and then proceed to signing Leon Powe as well. That should theoretically do it better than Haslem at quite a bit more in cost. Then we proceed to using Morrison to acquire a capable PG or SG/SF. Joe Smith and Gooden together would be a solid combo as well. Smith I really like, he's still a good rebounder, defender, and smart offensive player. He just has to have his minutes limited to say 12 mpg at the PF spot. At C, we'd need a second backup big man, not sure at this point who that would be.

Just for polling purposes how would this board feel about:

- Salmons
- Smith
- Gooden

versus

-Odom
- Farmar
- Vujajic

From last year.

Either one would be crap. Smith is older than the Bible and Gooden has been through how many teams now?

I don't think either one is a good replacement for Lamar.
None of them have the skills that Lamar has in scoring, rebounding, taking the ball to the basket, and the ability to occaisionally stick a 3.
Either move would be a huge downgrade for the Lakers.

Let's hope something happens with Lamar in the next couple of days or we're stuck with Drew Gooden? ugh

Puke all you like. They're both solid bench players.

You find ways to get past these things. If you can't replace Odom straight-up then you improve the overall bench.

They would have to sign and trade Odom for him to get that offer ... fire up the trade machine.

How about S/T Odom and Farmar for a big time PF? Who makes 12-13 mill? Antawn Jamison works?

Although, I really don't think the Lakers want to pay that much tax on any player. Wish they could have acted sooner.

I would say the best we could is recreate the bench, clear salary, and improve overall team future health as well as ability this year.

Trade Walton/Morrison for Curry to save cash and clear the future books.

Trade Odom for John Salmons in a S and T.

Trade Vujajic for Marcus Banks.

Trade Farmar for a pick.

PG- Fisher, Brown, Salmons, Banks
SG- Bryant, Salmons
SF- Artest, Salmons
PF- Gasol, Smith, Powell
C- Bynum, Gooden, Mbenga

In total the team saves close to 20m over the next couple of years and I can't say that bench is much worse in fact it might be better in some ways with that the retread Farmar, Walton, Vujajic combo completely gone.

PPL please post links when u post such things.. cant find this info anywhere..

We are not paying Bynum for nothing.. time for Bynum to deliver and us to move on from LO..

Gooden would be hard to get but I think we can get some decent min from Joe Smith and also get him at a price we can afford..

Good move Mitch..
