Cartier Martin-- take a flier on him?

Post#1 » by ParticleMan » Wed Jul 15, 2009 3:45 pm

one of the most impressive players in SL and NBDL. got spot duty in charlotte. seems like a guy who would fit in well -- good team defender, can score, true SF, ray allen-esque work ethic.

GS has too many wings, i think if we gave him a partially guaranteed deal he might take it. i think he could beat out billy walker. assuming we don't pick up a vet wing.

Ever watched him play?

Is there a player in the NBA who he's comparable to?

What's his game like?

i only saw him in college. he was a good shooter, and solid player all-around but no one outstanding skill. but apparently in the NBDL he has added more penetration to his game. he averaged 20.6 in the D-league last year. he doesn't have his former teammate bill walker's athleticism but he is a good team defender.

he reminds me of someone who could develop into a james posey-type player: good set shooter from 3 (39% in d-league), good help defender, does a lot of things solidly out there.

Never heard of him before reading your link but if the written word is true to real life he sounds impressive. At the very least he has the kind of attitude we need more of on our team.

We already have a couple unproven young wings in Giddens and Walker that have much better athleticism. If we are going to give someone young a shot I'd rather it be one of them and save the roster spot for an improvement at the trade deadline if they can't handle the job.

That said I do root for players that work hard and if he isn't signed somewhere it would be cool to get him into TC on a partially guaranteed contract and see if he could beat anyone out. The competition can only help Walker, Giddens, and himself.

Sounds like a good player. Can shoot, rebound, defend, is a hard worker, and gets to the line.

I don't really know much about him. I actually had thought he was a PG for some reason.
