Jeff Green for Okafor?

Post#1 » by wiff » Wed Jul 15, 2009 6:04 am

Ok for the most part in here we all like Jeff Green.

But even the biggest Jeff Green fans would trade him for say someone they like. I'd have no problem trading him for Beidrins.

Well what about Okafor?

Okafor could play PF with Krystic at C.

Okafor has had a couple seasons where he was banged up and missed some games. But for the last two years he played in 81 or more games.

You can pretty much pencil him in for at least 14pts, 10rebs and 1.7 blocks a night.

He plays great interior D.

Or is Jeff Green's upside/potential too much to trade him?

Last season Green averaged 16.5pts and 6.7 rebs.

I think 18pts and 7.5rebs a game are likely for this coming season.

Green and Watson add up to Okafor.

Or would you make the trade simply to get rid of Watson?

What about Green, Watson and the lower of the two picks the Thunder own in 2010?

On the Thunder's end, wouldn't mind the move as Okafor would improve the Thunder's defense and be an imitating presence in the post and would still contribute well on the offensive end. I'm not too sure the Cats may take the deal. They are at least a couple of good players away from being a playoff team. If they trade Okafor off now, this will set them back so getting Larry Brown to coach the team will be all for nothing.

I'm a big Green fan.

I would defiantly consider Okafor. Although Okafor has peaked IMO, and I think Green will be the better Pro by far, the things that Emeka brings fit perfectly into our needs. So I do this trade (with the necessary pieces to make it work)

Okafor would be a great addition to the team. He brings things Green lacks, rebounding, shot-blocking and great help and man to man defense.
But why would Cats do that? They have noone else in the frontcourt and Green plays a position of their bestplayer. -maybe if Portland gets Milsap and we see a DJ + Crash for LMA follow up, which is probably unlikely.

The Bobcats already have two SF/PF's though (Wallace & Diaw) and they're always looking for better big men. The deal would have to save them a lot of $$ for them to blink. They might like Collison.

I like Green, but he's not a PF on a winning team. He should play at the three, but OKC has the best SF not named LBJ. If the Thunder want to win, they need to trade him for a bigger, physical big man.

Well I also posted this trade over at the Bobcats board and it's received a pretty warm response.

Thunder trade
Nick Collison 6.25mil two years left
DJ White a second year PF who looked very good once he recovered from jaw cancer
2010 Thunder or Phoenix draft pick which ever is higher unprotected
Chucky Atkins 3.48mil exp (20% guaranteed)
Earl Watson 6.6mil exp

Bobcats trade
Emeka Okafor 10.5mil 5 year deal
Vladi Radman 6.46mil two years left

Why for the Thunder? They finally land that ever elusive defensive Center they need.

Why for the Bobcats? They get a nice prospect in DJ White and a nice asset in Collison who can back up either the 4 or the 5. They are able to get immediate cap relief by cutting Atkins since his contract is only partially guaranteed. A large amount of cap space for 2010 and the best between two draft picks that is unprotected.

Obviously you have the guys who say Okafor is the best player, but then other guys who seem to grasp the cap concept and realize they are in a bad situation and this would give them some financial freedom.

I'd prefer to make the trade with Collison and DJ White and keep Green.

wiff, I'd be in for your deal. It could bump Green to the bench most likely, which kills me. But Okafor could also start at center, just depends how it would all come together. The pick we give them will almost definitely be top 10 (there's no way that PHO and us both stay out of the top 10). It also obviously has the chance to be top 3, 1st overall, etc. But all risks considered, I could see doing that. My biggest concern would be, can we pay Okafor and keep our 3 core guys as well?

trading for okafor would be great and i'm all for it but i really can't see presti taking on that contract. it just doesn't seem like him.

also i think okafor could start with jeff green but it'd be in the team's best interest to bring green off the bench. or if green would start with okafor, then bring harden off the bench and start sefolosha. need some offense in the 2nd unit..

Green off the bench would be ideal, but he's a starter (a three) in this league.

Sure Green can start. Detlef could start too but he was an All-Star when he was a 6th man. And he was an All-Star as a starter.

Okafor can split time at PF/C and when he is playing C Green can play PF.

You start the game like this

PG Westbrook
SG Harden
SF Durant
PF Okafor
C Krystic

and you finish the game like this

PG Westbrook
SG Harden
SF Durant
PF Green
C Okafor

I think Okafor would be the final piece to really start competing.

Center 48minutes
Krystic 24min
Okafor 24min

PF 48minutes
Okafor 12min
Green 36min

SF 48min
Durant 38min
Thabo 10min

SG 48min
Harden 30min
Thabo 5min
Weaver 13min

PG 48min
Westbrook 36min
Livvy 12min

During blow outs give Mullens and Ibaka minutes.

That a solid nine man rotation.

wiff, what about vladimir radmonovic? i think i'd rather cut weaver's minutes entirely, play thabo sefolosha predominantly at shooting guard and use radmanovic for those 13 minutes per game.

Yeah I forgot about the fact that he was coming back in the trade.

Yeah i can see him playing SF and having Weavers ride the pine unless someone is dinged up which will happen over the course of a season..

If OKC could acquire Emeka and somehow NOT give up Green, all they would need is some seasoning and solid vet bench contributers and they'd be ready to compete sooner rather than later IMO.

Krstic 32 / Okafor 16
Okafor 20 / Green 28
Durant 40 / Green 8
Harden 32 / Thabo 16
Westbrook 36 / Livingston 12

Durant 40
Okafor 36
Westbrook 36
Green 36
Krstic 32
Harden 32
Thabo 16
Livingston 12

Very, very good 8 man rotation. And depending who you would have to give up for EO you would be left with Weaver, Collison, DJ White, Chucky, Ibaka, Mullens, and Wilkens.

Even if you did have to give up Green for EO, you do it. And replace Green's minutes with Collison and give Thabo Durant's back up minutes. And IMO, you give up any combination of players that are in the leftover list outside the 8 man rotation I listed to get Okafor, if they are not interested in Green. Which would surprise me if they were interested in him since they have Wallace and Diaw who both play the same position pretty much.

I don't really know what to make of this, myself. On one hand, I like like everyone here love Jeff Green but he plays the natural 3 and we have Kevin Durant who could quite possibly be the best upcoming SF in the game aside LeBron. On the other, we would get someone who could legitly play the 4 and be our best impression of Blake Griffin (lol.....well not really but). Gosh, but Jeff Green is only entering his 3rd year in the league while Emeka is entering his prime and will be all but done in a few years.

The sky's the limit for Green but damn I wish he didn't play Durant's position.

So Emeka Okafor was just traded straight up for Tyson Chandler.. Sam Presti could have had Tyson Chandler for Chris Wilcox and Malik Rose. Makes you wonder what could have been, huh..

Sometimes running a team conservatively you miss out on acquisitions like this. I wonder if acquiring Okafor could have been a real possibility? Seems like it.

Now why couldn't OKC get involved with Chandler and Okafor?
