How happy would you be if Lakers lose Odom?

Well I must say the off-season is looking good from a Celtics perspective:

Cavs: lose out on Artest, Rasheed, Ariza and Kidd. Although added Shaq.

Lakers: Gain Artest but lose Ariza.

Orlando: Lose Hedo but add Carter

Celtics: Add Rasheed.

I'll never go as low as hoping for injuries to their players, but anything else which hurts their chances is all right with me.

Jerry Buss has followed through with his threat and has removed the $9 million offer that the Lakers put to Lamar Odom after the champion forward did not respond, the L.A. Times is reporting.

Buss grew upset and broke off all negotiations after the offer was reportedly on the table for over a week, and he heard nothing back either way.

"Yes, we have taken the deal off the table," Lakers public relations director John Black said. "Talks have broken down for the time being."

Black was asked if talks could resume in the future.

"That's within the realm of possibility," he said.

Lakers team officials, who were not authorized to speak about the negotiations, said Buss offered Odom a deal for $9 million a season for four years at $36 million, or $10 million a season over three years for a total of $30 million.

Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, were looking for $10 million a year over five seasons.

Oh man, I HOPE things get even more sour and he goes to Miami! That would be very sweet!

I see that the Hedo overrating and Carter underrating has reached the Celtics board too

He will sign with the lakers, I have no doubt. They are just playing hard ball right now. Lakers know no team can offer him more than they can unless UTA matches for Milsap and blazers go after LO...

I think LA will get him back on a nice deal...

I just don't understand what the problem is. It's not like the Lakers and Odom are far away from each other moneywise. Lakers are willing to give him 9 million for three years. He wants 10 million for five years. The difference is around 5-6 millions (with an annual raise and maybe some incentives). Why don't the Lakers just offer him 9.5 for five years with a team option on the fifth year.

It's not like they're going to be able to replace him. And it's not like they're going to be under the cap anytime soon. And it's not like Odom is less valueable then Bynum. And it's not like the Lakers have trouble generating money.

The problem is that Odom is not negotiating. This ties up the Lakers. Either they sign him or they replace him with BPA. The longer this goes the slimmer the pickings get.

Odom;s agent is negotiating a S&T deal that gets Odom what he wants. It depends on what the Lakers get back.

It's a summary of much of the Odom situation recently. I've been following the situation alot. Odom wants years on his deal. Obviously the only team that could give Odom a deal over the MLE is Portland and thus far they've gone after all FA forwards EXCEPT ODOM. His agent is thus looking for a S&T that works for all..

God, I hope they are not talking with Chris Wallace.

It would be great. Any key component lost to our competitors helps us. Every team has made drastic changes from what has made them successful, if it makes them better or worse is still up in the air. We've kept the core that won us a championship but added a huge piece as a BENCH player. We're going to be incredible. If we stay healthy I see another huge regular season win total, while other teams will be working on chemistry. And we know we can beat anybody when healthy in a 7 game series.

Are you really going to start insinuating?

In regards to the OP, I think it would lower the Lakers chances of repeating severely, obviously making many others happy. They can still retain some value if they can pull of a decent sign and trade but I doubt they'll be anywhere near the same level.

Don't know where you got that but maybe this can help. This is from Ric Bucher's Twitter

Just an FYI: if Lakers do abandon LO, they aren't doing any sign&trades. Nobody out there they consider comparable they'd want to get.
By my knowledge the Lakers have never done a S&T.

Yes it would suck for Lakers and us fans but no way in HELL we give this inconsistent bastard 10mill/yr for 5yrs to come of the bench of all Things....wont you guys run into this problem when Rondo/Perkins are due for extension?
