So what do you think of Buss?

Post#1 » by TonyMontana » Wed Jul 15, 2009 7:28 pm

I wanted to see what this board felt and thinks about Buss?
I give him props for being the owner that he is, he puts out the money when he has to at the sametime he doesnt stick his nose in the buisness of his players or negotiations.
He stands strong and doesnt allow anything to get in the way of him and his goals and thats to win as many titles as possible before he either hands the team over to his kids or sells the team. I have mad props for him as an owner and one of his qualities is that he wont allow anyone as we seen Kobe, Shaq and recently Lamar to push him around and force him to do something that he doesnt want to do.
Im glad he pulled his offer from Lamar, he basically told Lamar to go and find a job somewhere else, thats staright up IM THE BOSS and your a nobody to tell me ish or disrespect me after all I have done for you and all the crap I had to put up with all these years. PROPS

I called him senile and what not when Kobe was demanding a trade but following his moves closely over the past 3 - 4 seasons I can understand that he puts his money where his mouth is. The fact that he was still ready to offer Odom 9 mil per even with the highest pay roll in the league already goes ways to signal his intentions. Not to mention him retaining Phil Jackson at 12 mil per season.

I appreciate the fact that he still holds players and agents accountable and is not afraid to out the boot on the table when he feels that someone is disrespecting the franchise. The fact that he's still actively monitoring FA acquisitions instead of letting Jim Buss take over like he was rumored to a couple of seasons ago comes as a great sign for me as a fan.

^ That's a solid take.

Here I am putting the onus on him, when in fact that 4 year, 36-million deal -- if accurate -- is pretty damn fair in my opinion.

I just have a hard time getting overly enthused about the rich guys who own sports franchises, even ones who prioretize winning like Buss does. They're about the last reason I follow pro sports.

This question was asked to David Stern i think after the finals this year and his answer says it all..
An owner who never hesitates to sacrifice for the betterment of the league. The answer was leading towards agreeing to a luxury tax based revenue sharing agreement with other owners..

I am glad the Lakers are owned by a great businessman who knows how to delegate and let people do their job, while stepping in when required..

I was the happiest when Buss traded off Shaq.. never liked the douche bag..

I like him but Odom is being an idiot but so is he. GOOD BIG MEN GO FOR 10 MILLION. Odom is very good big man and your putting alot of pressure on the players for a year on a contract.

Your just made us a sure thing repeat to happy with the 1. We could lose Phil, Gasol and Bynum will have more pressure on them, Kobe and Phil will have a harder time with Ron who will both have harder time's on the court who are both in the latter end of there careers.

Buss your being in ASS.

If we cant win with the current team minus odom (plus some cheap replacement) , then i say we dont deserve it..

Dont blame buss he is already spending a lot more than he can afford..

the best owner i've known. They don't call him Dr. Buss for nothing.

Right now he's putting on his poker face and knows when to stay in and pull out. He's one of the only owners that i know out that that's willing to pay up for talent and knows when to play hardball and not get run over by greedy agents out there. Laker franchise has won numerous championships with him as the owner.. i don't want to change anything about him hehe

That makes 0 sence. So if a team goes out and gets 1 player and that player puts you over the top you didn't deserve it in the first place? Smart logic, makes alot of sence.

Drex do you even have a clue why the Lakers pulled their offer from Odom or what is Odom looking for in his contract. I realize your a fan of the Lakers the Bobcats the Spurs and R.J and recently you have been a BIG Lamar supporter, but do you actually have a clue why they havent been able to negotiate a contract with Lamar?
Its not because Buss is an idiot or Lamar is an idiot, and its not the term of the contract, Lamar wants 5 and LA is only giving Lamar 3.

Also you might think Lamar is worth 10 mil but obviously your not writing the checks and as you can see nobody outside of LA is offering Lamar ANYTHING not even a bag of candy, so I guess NBA G.Ms know a little bit more than you and Mitch knows a LOT more than you to offer Lamar a 3 year 9mil a year contract. YOU THINK???

And how are we going to lose Phil, Gasol, and Bynum if Lamar doesnt sign with us, ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Also how is Kobe and Phil going to have a harder time with Ron, Ron has nothing to do with Lamar or Kobe or Phil.

Dude try to stick to one team and one board then you might understand more about whats really going on instead of cluttering our board with all these posts that really dont make any sense at all.
Can you do that?

What do you mean it makes no sense, it makes a lot of sense.
We lost Ariza and we obtained Artest, Artest is at least two notches above Ariza, big time upgrade.
Now Lamar leaves, Lamar played a huge role last year but he can be replaceable, Kobe cant, Pau cant, Lamar can. If we can get one decent role player that has the desire and will to win a title and put away his greed for money and has a goal for a championship like Artest has then I think we have a great shot at repeating.
