Morris Almond with Knicks

Post#1 » by Racer X » Wed Jul 15, 2009 12:05 am

Played in his first game today for the Knicks. Had 17 pts, 8 rebouds. Shot 7-12 overall, 3-6 from 3. Played against a Memphis team with Marcus Williams, Sam Yound, Darrell Arthur, and Hasheem Thabeet.

I am in the camp that says that Mo Almond is going to be a player in this league.

Lets keep our eyes open all season long.

I guess as long as your team doesnt have any other scorers he will be valuable. But he is too much of a ball hog for this system.

I never really felt like he fit in with the Jazz. He wasn't part of Deron's crew as far as we've heard. And he's a ballhog like Kobe of Michael, with a fourth of the talent.

I feel like this ballhog tag is a bit unfair considering that he got nothing more than garbage time his entire time with the Jazz. In last years RMR he actually had quite a few nice feeds.

He really cant be evaluated until he gets actual time during a real NBA game.

I figured he would have a good showing in the Summer League but I'm not sad or worried about it. He may end up being a solid player but he didn't fit here and we cant afford him anyways. It was either him or Fes and the Jazz went with Fes.

Me neither. If he is a success I will be happy for him. I am just intrested to see if the Jazz made a mistake.

Still, it's summer league. Almond was also a monster in the D-League. Can he do it in an actual NBA game? IMO, he'll be a solid role player off the bench. But will he be better than Brewer, Miles or Korver? Probably not.

the whole ballhog act wont fly in ny either though, im just hoping he realizes he needs to change his ways to become a legit nba player, which he clearly has the talent to be

nate and al harrington both dominated the ball and put up very respectable numbers, but the offense was completely stagnant - now neither seem to be in our plans

if anyone could get the best out of him on offense though, its d'antoni

We'll see how he turns out, i personally think hes better than CJ Miles. And yeah i guess Mo didnt really interact with his teamates, we'll see but I think Almond will be a serviceable player to say the least, maybe he'll be like Mo Williams was with us didnt get his time to shine and then does well elsewhere!

Was this kid ever a chemistry issue with you guys? He didnt play much in his 2 years there. Only 294 minutes?

I have no clue. To be honest you'd never really know we drafted him.

He did not have chemistry issues. He was not enough of a factor to have them.

People on this board just hate. I really have no idea why.

He was given a raw deal with the jazz. He is on the right team now, let's see how he does before we judge him.

I will say this. I saw him in a D League game and he didn't really seem to like to pass the ball. Maybe that was because he was an NBA player amongst a lot of D-Leaguers. Maybe he was just a ball hog. I have no idea either way because he rarely played with the Jazz. 1 D-league game isn't enough to sum up someones career. But you hear Deron talking about spending time with Brewer, Millsap, and CJ. It seems like that is kind of his crew. For whatever reason Almond was never able to get time in a Jazz uni, but maybe it was because he simply didn't fit in chemistry wise. There's players that fit our system and players that don't. That'd be my best guess.

Alpha player with a zeta game. On the Knicks he could put up David Lee offensive numbers. I'm not afraid of him though. If he could defend; he would have gotten a chance. Brewer got a chance, Millsap got a chance. The Jazz may be dogmatic, but they ain't brain dead.

LOL. kinda true in a way.

I'd like to see him do well, or at least have a chance to show what he's capable of doing. I definitely think that if he's in the right system for him he has more potential than what he showed with the Jazz. He really wasn't given much of a chance.

I really like him a lot, he seems like a very nice and thoughtful young man. The blog he wrote was entertaining and very well written, none of that typical "hood" slang. I'm not saying that type of slang is bad, it's just a different style, and that wasn't his style. And he didn't seem to be the type to spend time hanging out at clubs and such like Deron, CJ and their crew of "homies"

It's funny, but also totally true.

Due to work-related travel I haven't watched every Jazz game over the past two years... but I've followed them as closely as I've been able to, and I have no idea what kind of player he is. I don't remember a first-round draft pick ever being this much of a ghost.

I guess I should've gone to a few Flash games.

By way of TrueHoop:

Morris Almond, former Jazz player and now with the Knicks' summer league team, on video on MSG.com talking about the difference in coaching styles: "Phil Weber, you know the first thing he said before we went out there was 'if you have an open look, take it.' Hadn't heard that in a while, so that makes basketball fun again."

The first 5 minutes of the game against Memphis sure looked like Almond was a chucker. Anything he touched, wasn't going back out. Then he got pulled and when he returned he seemed to be more careful about which shots he took, worked harder on the boards and did an ok job defensively.
