Add any 1 player...

Post#1 » by roc » Wed Jul 15, 2009 9:34 pm

If Cleveland could add any player in the league to pair with LeBron for now and down the road who would it be?

Think in terms of longevity and play on both ends of the court.

Isn't Chris Paul Lebron's best friend in the league. That would seem like a pretty decent starting point. In terms of just player on the court and no LBJ relationship, I'd have to think D-Howard would look rather good next to him for a decade plus.

Probably Howard, but Joe Johnson and Bosh could be great fits too, and both would certainly be more obtainable than Dwight.

Chris Paul is a baby. The way he cried after losing a game of bowling. Just kidding. He would the third choice behind Howard and Wade.
Is Larry Hughes having fun yet?

r0cd0gg, just so you know, this is completely different than fit... any team with a good wing player and not so great (or old) bigs would pick Dwight. If we already had good bigs, the choice would be Kobe/Paul/Wade/etc.. And vice versa for a team that has good bigs and bad wings.. so you using this thread really shouldn't help you in the game besides pointing out that Howard is the best big in the game.

Anyways, as I said in the PC board- when you asked about who FIT with Lebron the best-

I don't get why people say Dwight. I understand pairing the best wing with the best big man, but FITWISE, they are not a good pairing. I understand you want a good defensive big man, but KG is a much better outside shooter and complement to Lebron than Dwight is. If you aren't worrying about defense then Dirk and Bosh are much better complements. My feeling is that Dwight is as bad a complement to Lebron on offense as Bosh and Dirk are on defense.

By the way people, those who don't understand why he is asking the question- it has nothing to do with Shaq. It's about GM a Team in the Trades and Transactions Game section. He has Dwight, which is why he said BOTH ends of the floor. (I'm not in the running for Lebron, so above is my honest opinion.)

Dwight. With LeBron driving dwights ability to get open under and over the hoop would be clutch. Our team FG% would sky rocket. Plus he would space the floor for our shooter, and grab lots of o boards off our misses. He would make us the best defensive team and rebounding team in the league easily.

Well with or without tarnished results my answer is still the same...lol

I thought about this before looking at any other post's and of course before clicking on the link there is always a couple of guys that come to mind.

Still I think you have to look at a couple of things when making this pick, if your not a center (and of course Lebron isn't) you have to look in that area, also you have to get someone that is proven in the NBA and not just a young prospect type player.

If you add a good PG or someone that can shoot the 3...etc you are still missing the big man in the middle.

So than you have to look at age as well and of course you end up with Howard :-)

But it goes kind of the same the other way as well, not saying everyone would add Lebron if they could to go with Howard but your going to look for a Lebron, Wade or Kobe type of player to add to him instead of another big guy IMO.

I think the pieces would be alot easier to fill in with say Lebron and Howard compared to a Lebron and Wade or Paul type of combo.

Well here is how he asked the question,
"If Cleveland could add any player in the league to pair with LeBron for now and down the road who would it be?

Think in terms of longevity and play on both ends of the court."

For now and down the road and in terms of longevity....etc

Garnett is 33 and coming off knee surgery as well as a season where he played in less than 60 games and 0 in the playoffs...etc

Howard is 23 (will turn 24 at end of the year) and isn't coming off knee surgery.

I like Garnett but when your taking everything into account than Howard wins easy as far as down the road and longevity are concerned, age and health both go to Howard and it's not close.

I don't think you understood my post. My first paragraph is about this topic and had very similar results to your previous post. If you had to pick anyone in the NBA to pair with the best wing, you go with the best big man over the best PG or another wing. My second paragraph is in response to the underlying reason why he made this thread (he also made one on the PC board), and as I stated, it talked about fit.

Reason I said BOTH ends of the floor is peeps in the PC board had mainly offense stuck in their heads and even then many of them mentioned Dwight. I do think a PRIME KG would be awesome but he is no longer prime.

As for spacing my team has 3 point shooters in Watson 40%, Morrow 47%(#1 in the L) in the backcourt. Derrick Favors at the 4 who has range out to 18 feet, and Dwight in the middle.

Watson/Morrow/LeBron/Favors/Dwight would be insane on both ends of the floor as the spacing and D are there in abundance.

and

Thanks all for your replies, mos def appreciated fo sho.

As has been mentioned by bcortell this is for a game we are playing on the trade board. Since that has been brought up I will add some info. Keep in mind these are only the starting 5 and some of these teams need to add more depth(mine in particular) but that is too much to get into ATM since I don't want to give away my plans to my fellow GMs.

These are the possibilities for LeBron to fit into. Which starting unit would be the best in your opinions on both ends of the floor for both now and down the road. Oh yeah, this is in the 2010 offseason so some players will have more experience under their belts while others will be getting long in the NBA tooth.

CJ Watson/Anthony Morrow/LeBron/Derrick Favors/Dwight

Devin Harris/Eric Gordon/LeBron/Scola/Brook Lopez

Sessions/Wilson Chandler/LeBron/D West/Horford

Foye/Gay/LeBron/Jordan Hill/Big Al

Chalmers/Roy/LeBron/Love/Blatche

Nash/Hedo/LeBron/Jamison/Bonner

Ellis/Brandon Rush/LeBron/Blake Griffin/Javale McGee

Calderon/Harden/LeBron/Villanueva/DeAndre Jordan

and thanks a ton for humoring me, it is much appreciated.

 I'm almost glad I'm not in the running.. but what do you think Deron/Redd (Willie Warren)/Bron/Boozer/Okur.. I win..

My rankings:
1.Devin Harris/Eric Gordon/LeBron/Scola/Brook Lopez
2.CJ Watson/Anthony Morrow/LeBron/Derrick Favors/Dwight
3.Sessions/Wilson Chandler/LeBron/D West/Horford
4/5.Chalmers/Roy/LeBron/Love/Blatche
4/5.Ellis/Brandon Rush/LeBron/Blake Griffin/Javale McGee
6.Calderon/Harden/LeBron/Villanueva/DeAndre Jordan

Don't think he returns..

You have Dwight as probably the biggest attraction (followed closely by Roy), but your backcourt is simply awful as a starting backcourt. You can say that they will do their job well (shoot), but Lebron plays better when he's off the ball (why having a starting quality PG, who isn't afraid of Lebron, gets a boost here). It's hard to project how Favors will do since he'll be a rookie, but by this year EG and Brook both have a few seasons and should be completing/coming to their own for games. Devin Harris is one of the best PG's in the game, and Scola is a nice big man complement. That, plus they are all pretty young.
