Barnes can play PF in spurts defensively. I think he'd be one of those big SF's they talked about the Cavs wanting to put next to Lebron.

PG: Mo Williams / Daniel GIbson
SG: Delonte West / Anthony Parker
SF: Lebron James / Matt Barnes
PF: Anderson Varejao / JJ Hickson
C: Shaquille O'Neal / Zydrunas Ilgauskas

I don't mind having him.. He might be our stretch 4, I'm assuming. Kleiza won't be bad either.

We already have AP not sure why this would make sense. Unless we sign Barnes and then trade Gibson and a a first a true PF. I still do not like that JJ is our fourth big.......add that with having two aging centers. We really need a PF

I'm with you on are aging centers, but don't forget they won't have to log big minutes. Shaq maybe 25min & Z 23min So we should have two fresh bigs for the play-offs

I agree we need a PF more. Signing Barnes I think would mean Lebron would play more PF and we'd use Barnes at SF.

I also noticed ORL is after Barnes. For that reason alone I guess I'm down with signing him :)

JJ will be cool if we had a coach to help develop him. JJ too shy, but if Shaq side coached him on his play in the paint, he would be a beast. He already has good foot work, he just need to work on his Jumper and bang harder in the post. And we need Barns be cause he is young, plays good D, he can shoot the ball and get to the basket. Wally getting too old and he has bad knees. And we do need a young athletic center, who isn't shy. If we had that center, by him being side coached by Z and Shaq, he would be a monster!

If you can, nab Kleiza for the 2.7 MLE remaining if he would accept and Barnes for the 2 million BAE. These guys would be huge upgrades in terms of backups and give the Cavs a lot more options defensively. I like that Kleiza and Barnes don't mind sticking their nose in there on the defensive end.

I wouldn't set your hopes on signing him, unless you guys want another player NOT to pick the Cavs. Sounds like he is about to sign with Orlando.

Actually someone from Hoopsworld (Bill Ingram) thinks the opposite...

Will in Orlando:
Where do you think Matt Barnes will end up signing,I hear Cleveland and Orlando are interested?
Bill Ingram:
Yeah . . .the Cavs are close to signing him, from what I hear and you're right - if they don't, the Magic will pursue him for sure.

Hoopsworld isn't a credible source for any information, news, or rumor.. It's almost as bad as Bleach Report.

Now in Vegas for summer league. Tho there has been contact, Cavs are not talking contract with M. Barnes right now. A. Parker signed today.

BARNES to sign with Cavs. Tweet says Cavs or Atl, but it is understood that he wants to be with Shaq and a winning team. Suns fan here: enjoy Shaq and Barnes, I'll miss em...

I know we keep saying it, but it will be a waste of an oppurtunity if we don't find a jumpshooting PF capable of starting next to Shaq. Putting an average stretch PF in that role could make them put ip all star numbers. The game would be made so easy for them. But if you keep Andy starting, you lose the chance to make a certain type of player excel.

Villanueva for instance, would have excelled next to Shaq and would have looked much better than he actually was. Guys like Kleiza, Outlaw, etc could have huge seasons next to Shaq because of their style of play.

Andy will not excel next to Shaq. All he'll do is help clog the lane.

Ferry will address this via trade. There is no FA left worth the money that can fill that role.
