Flashback: Doc Rivers on Bird scoring 60

Post#1 » by return2glory » Wed Jul 15, 2009 9:33 am

This is some funy stuff. I had never heard these comments before from Doc. This shows you why Larry Bird was one of the best all time players. Haha. Bird started calling his shots. "Off the glass, who's next, where you want this one from, who wants it?" Great stuff. Bird was a big time **** talker. Doc is funny.

Was this the game after Mchale had scored a game hi 57 the night before? And Bird is said to have ribbed him and told him he should have tried to get 60???

LMAO at Hawks bench cheering for Bird  What a great game.
Who would win one-on-one in HORSE?

Bird: Nobody beats me in H-O-R-S-E. Besides, Magic cant shoot.

Magic: Larry, you'd have no chance against me one-on-one. I've got too many ways to beat you. Plus, as slow as I am, I'm still faster than you.

People who question how good Bird would be now a days just don't understand how awesome this guy was. How crazy good do you have to be to have opposing players high fiving each other when you are making shots? The hero worship from the announcers was extreme, and that wasn't even the Celtics' crew. Doc saying that he called that three point bomb falling into the trainer's lap was classic. They hit the nail right on the head too, because Bird wasn't some ball dominating gunner. He was doing that without hogging the ball. The guy was an animal.

Larry Bird was and still is the greatest basketball player I have watched in my life.

If you disagree, then we will have to agree to disagree.

Do you guys think that Larry Legend is a good judge of talent?

Seeing the greatest example of talent + effort in Bird, I just don't know why people question his draft choices.

Yea. Your close. McHale had 56 to score the most points in a game for any Celtic player. Bird said that record would be mine soon. He scored 60 about 8 days later.

Yeah it is. It's hilarious. He was calling his shots with Babe Ruth, but Bird was more specific.

Doc Rivers: "His last shot, he (Bird) said in the trainer's lap." Wow. And he landed on the trainer's lap after making a crazy shot. Who does that?? Bird was playing horse in an actual game. Amazing. I Love Larry Bird.

I agree with Celtic Esquire, Bird was the best player I've seen. He is also still my favorite of all time.
