Summer League

Post#1 » by SApuro_ » Mon Jul 13, 2009 6:03 pm

Did anyone catch the spurs first summer league game? Boy did Blair look solid. Guy puts up 13 pts and 10 reb in 22 mins. The kid is a beast. Hill did good as well scoring 25 pts. Still think its going to be tough for Hill to run the point though. The guy is a natural 2 guard but if he wants playing time he's going to have to get used to giving Tony a breather every now and again. You just gotta love Hill's athletism and solid defense.

No didn't see the game. But heard good things about Blair. After watching him in college all of two halves, I'm convinced that he can rebound in the NBA and this is a slight confirmation.

Hill development will be added to all the new talent we have. But back to Blair we don't need a whole lot from him if he can be nasty on the glass. Hit the open shot is all.

When I heard Haislip wasn't playing I opted out of buying the package.

Yeah, it was a great outing for 3 of the 6 guys to watch. Hill/Blair/Hairston impressed, while Ian/Jack/Gist underwhelmed. Loved to see Blair go after those boards...if there's a rebound to be had, you damn well better get out of his way!

Yeah, I definitely liked Thornton/Collison for you guys. Julian Wright also looks like he's going to have a bigger impact this year.

Anither win for SA.
Hairston had an other good game with 17 and Hill had 16. Blair had a DNP. Ian looked pretty decent, 12 and 16 rebounds, unfortunaty also had 10 fouls. Gist had another underwhelming performance, 5 and 4 in 18 minutes.

I heard Blair is held out of the game over a contract dispute...? That's a new one to me, as if summer league games are going to give you leverage....and a second round pick should be holding out for more money in the first place.

Yeah it surprised me to see him not play. Hopefully after 22 min in a summer league game his knees aren't shot. lol I think everything will work out fine. As long as he doesn't ask for Lamar odom type money no issues.

Great bounceback effort by Ian. Not too worried about the fouls, since about 6 of them were due to the putrid officiating.

Another good game for Hill. Boy he looks really confident out there. Nice job for Mahimni especially in front of peter holt. His 16 rebounds almost equaled his career totals in a spurs uniform. Hopefully he continues to do well. Anyone know the contract numbers for Hairston? That kid has been playing pretty good. I know we signed him just not sure if its a guaranteed contract and for how many years. I am sure its the league minimum.

I haven't been able to catch any of the games so far. Can someone give me an update on how Gist is doing so far?

Gist isn't doing so well. Only made a couple baskets, hasn't done much on the defensive end either. He's also been stuffed badly on at least 2 dunk attempts.

Sounds like his athleticism is not making up for his lack of size.

I have been a little disappointed with Gist so far. Not sure if he makes the team now that the spurs just spent 900k on Blair.

It looks like the spurs are able to turn it on in the 2nd half. Very good sign with Hill leading the way and Blair, Ian, and Malik contributing.

Still a few more games to go but boy to you have to like what the young bucks are doing out there. Hill has been playing great. Blair has shown what he can do. Mahimni has given us glimces of what we need from him. Hairston is knocking down those shots and Gist hasn't shown up. All that said we already have 14 roster stops filled. So our team is locked up.

Now its a matter of who goes to Austin for further development. I think Mcclintoc, Gist go to the Toros but I am curious who else goes. Do we send M. Williams there for another year...doubt it. RC seems to love the kid. Does Hairston get to be a star in the D league. Doubt we carry all 14 players so early in the season.

Hill and Blair obviously looks marvelous.

Mahinmi is a huge disappointment so far IMO. He had one good game and that was a 12 point 16 rebound performance in game 2. After that, he played like crap. so that's 1 good game out of 4 games againts summer league competition. Disappointing.

McClinton too. He can shoot it, but that's about it and he's not even hitting his shots right now. That will come, no doubt about it. But what is he? He looks like a mini version of Steve Kerr/Roger Mason. It's not like the guy is instant offense off the bench. Atleast I don't think so.

For me GIst. is the biggest disappointment. I was hoping after the Itailian league he would have improved a bit. Mahimni too has been a disappointment but I have come to expect that sad as it sounds. His amount of fouls is what bothers me. Last thing we need is another defensive liabilty.

Well do we honestly expect more than 10 mins a game from them? No really. Ian at the very least should be able to give Elson type production if given the mins.

Gist... I am not really that high on him but if need be... let him stay overseas.
