TI: Big Z for Troy Murphy

Post#1 » by cavsfan_osiris » Thu Jul 9, 2009 8:15 pm

Positives:

Murph can ball. His range covers the whole court, dude can shoot lights out. He can rebound, hustles, is 6'11". Can play C at times if needed depending on matchup. Perfect compliment for Shaq/LeBron.

Negatives:

Is owed 12 million in 2010-2011. Maybe the Cavs could get a 2nd rounder for taking on the extra salary. Despite his effort he's not the greatest of defenders.

I think Murphy is underrated, but no way do I take his contract.

Yes, for 23 mil. Most likely, I think we're keeping Z around til the deadline when we will explore the option of trading him in a salary dump/ filler for another team. I don't let him go yet.

Murphy is another of those guys that tends to light up the Cavs. I like him but his contract is insane. Don't see the Cavs taking it on at this point.

I like Murphy. I don't think we would move Z for him though, I think Ferry would set his sights higher if he moved Z's contract.

I'd consider it though.

guys I think this is a great idea. Murphy @ 16 and 11 would keep us rebounding and his range would help us with spreading the floor. Remember we are now an above average to great passing team at every position. Shaq passes extremely well and Murphy would be the hustler who forces big guys away from the paint so Lebron could still drive. I played with him on 2K9 and we blasted everyone.

Murphy can't play a lick of defense. And he's not really known for pure hustle, he just has a knack for finding boards and yanking them out of the hands of his teammates. He would add a 3-point shooter, though. The Pacers in no way, shape, or form want Big Z, though. We have Hibbert and Foster, Ilgauskas wouldn't do anything for us.

There has to be a cheaper PF option than Murphy who can hit a mid range jump shot? The Cavs just need a PF that can spread the floor. Murphy does have that skill but overall he's way overpaid.

If the Cavs trade Ilgauskas it will be to a team that is looking for a straight salary dump possibly at the trade deadline. I think if the Cavs do trade Z they would prefer to send him to a team that will buy him out so he can be brought back to the Cavs to finish his career.

I dont think ths team cares about salary at this point. In fact, Id say we're the team most likely to take on big salaries out of every team in the league.

Id love Murphy. Ferry wouldnt use Z to get him, Z is only going to go through the "trade, buyout and re-sign with Cavs" route for a big time player.

Murphy isnt a big time player, but I think hes a fantastic fit, at least offensively and in terms of rebounding. Ive been hoping the Cavs could get a player like him ever since the Shaq deal, we just cant have ANdy starting next to Shaq.

I'd do this kind of deal at the deadline if this was the best I could get. After paying Varejao and Parker, I think Murphy's deal isn't as hard to swallow as some are suggesting. The Cavs struck out on free agent PF's this summer. I doubt there will be much more big man talent next summer.

He'd look fantastic now that we might have added another defensive forward in Moon. Murphy's shooting and rebounding would seriously be a great compliment to Shaq. Just don't know how we'd get him. Would they dump his contract for a draft pick?

i think he'd be a great deadline pickup (presuming the pacers would buyout z and we get him back)

And indiana does this why? I also would think that by paying a guy 9 mil a season to play power forward you wouldn't go out and get a guy who makes even more to play the same position...

The Cavs aren't paying anyone 9 mil a year to play PF.

I like the idea of getting murphy but i still dont think we are going to trade Z i think he will be a Cavalier until he retires.
