If Iverson gets no offers...

Post#1 » by Hemingway » Thu Jul 16, 2009 8:19 pm

If no one wants him for MLE money and a starting spot, maybe Danny should pay him a visit. We can't start him and we probably won't play him at the end of close games but we might be able to give him a special roll. We could tell him we want him for 25-30 minutes a night off the bench and at least 20 of those he can be the main option. He MIGHT go for that. We could rest Pierce and KG and Rondo and put AI in there with Ray to kick out to as well as Sheed. Letting him go one one one with his man for a while might not be the worst move our bench could make. At a one year deal he might be able to get a ring and prove he can still play. I don't think this is at all likely but if he gets no offers perhaps we should at least make the offer. If he has to come off the bench he could save face by doing it on the best team in the league.

AI is never going change his ways and there is no way in hell he takes 1.9 million to play for the celtics. I mean it is only the middle of July so he still has time. I still say he ends up with the bobcats.

If Iverson gets no offers... he should retire.

I personally hate Iverson as a player and would probably puke if I had to watch his "dribble the shot clock down so I can get mine show" in Boston.

Most overrated player in the history of the NBA and by looking at the types of teams he's been rumored to thus far (Clippers and Grizzlies LOL) you can really get a glimpse of what is in this man's heart.

IMO, it's not the competitive spirit that drives a Michael Jordan to 6 titles it's the unquenchable thirst to satisfy his ego and his pitiful attempt to pad his career stats. Iverson's career is like the extended version of Ricky Davis missing a shot purposely to get a triple double. Sad that so many have been fooled by "the Answer's" game.

And when you say, "perhaps we should at least make the offer" what are you expecting? The LLE? Cause i really highly doubt he ever accepts that.

I hope we could somehow acquire him too if he doesn't throw any hissy fits but I just don't see how. It would probably have to be through S&T with Detroit so he can sign a contract for a larger figure.

What deals could work for Detroit?

I'm assuming they want Baby in return since it appears they are somewhat interested in acquiring him anyway. What else though, to make salaries work? They need a center but we don't have any to give, they will have plenty of 4's. Probably Bill Walker but his salary isn't very much help. They don't need anymore 2's. Maybe a backup PG, which we also don't have.

So...

Baby(S&T)
Bill Walker
TA?

for

AI

Leaves us with...

Perk 32 / Sheed 16 / Swift
KG 32 / Sheed 16 / Scal
Pierce 32 / (LLE) 16
Ray 32 / AI 16 / House / JR
Rondo 36 / AI 12 / Gabe

28 minutes or so for Iverson off the bench. Would he go for that? Better than what he was getting towards the end of his stay with Detroit when everything went sour.

He did. He offered him the veterans minimum which was of course refused. Marbury is probably going to play overseas.

Still one of my favorite players EVER. Love the guys heart and passion for the game. I really, really wished him and Paul could get rings in the NBA someday. Paul sacrificed his game for one, Iverson didn't..which is too bad. He is still NASTY good if you ask me, and I hope he gets his **** together soon, and takes bench on a contender. Him on the Celtics to me would be like a dream come true. If we can't get any PG, and Iverson doesn't get deals..than idk..I could see him coming here...

Rondo/Iverson
Ray/House
Pierce/Moon
KG/Sheed
Perk/Sheed

WOW......
WHAT THEY GON’ SAY NOW? ‎ THANK YOU TRUTH!

Hey a player like AI's talent off the bench would be phenomenal in a vacuum. But we all know it comes with a giant ego and bitching about minutes. Fuggetaboutit..

im a big fan of iverson and consider him way underrated even at this stage of his career. there are very few players that can put up points as quickly as he can in this league.

problem is, at this point, he can't D people up better than Ray can so we can't start him.

I suppose Sheed and AI worked out so well for Detroit people want to replicate that success here?

At this point, and there is still time for him before his career is over to change so hope isn't lost, AI just seems more about the individual accomplishments than the team one. I'm not sure going to him and saying that here's your chance to win a title does anything, because the fact that he is trying to get a starting role with the bottom feeders is a pretty good indicator that winning isn't very important to him.

Thankfully we no longer run the risk of trading Big Al for him, because that would have been heartbreaking IMO. But at this point, I still don't want him here because there isn't the slightest inclination that he would accept his role. Which is subbing for RA and RR, who are IMO vastly better players than AI. I just don't think he realizes it yet. And that's the problem.

AI has offers for the MLE for one year from MEM and will likely get it from LAC and CHA, he doesn't need us to pitty him.

I will say that while I agree with this, it is sad that AI has to go for cash from the dregs of the league as he closes his career, who probably just want to sign him to get fans in the seats. He should retire if this is how he's going to go out. I can't imagine a Jordan or a Bird going out like this..

Aside from Pierce, Reggie MIller & Michael, Iverson is in my top 4 all time favorite players...

That being said, keep him the hell away from the Celtics.

Unfortunately, I have come to the sad realization this offseason, that Allen Iverson cares only about personal stats, not winning a ring. Unless of course he can be the main focal point of the team.

Last year AI had a chance to show the top teams that he would be willing to play 25-30 minutes per game off the bench for them. We all know how the ended up. Even though I agreed no way should Det have started Stuckey over him, that is irrelevant. That fact of the matter was they did and he was a cancer to the team.

Simple as that.

No way would it be any different here. There is a reason LAC, MEM and MIA are the only team considering him, because all the top teams no he is who he is.

Can he still average 25 ppg? Absolutely. 100%. Without a doubt.

Unfortunately, it will be on a team that struggles to make it to .500 and to the Playoffs.

Do you mean for us or include him in that proposed trade? Because I think Detroit knows first hand Eddie house cannot dribble the ball to save his life. But I wouldn't mind adding him in there if they wanted him.

It's quite possible, but unlikely that maybe having KG, Ray and a Paul Pierce around AI that AI might change his tune and really embrace trying to win that NBA title.

We will never know if it can work out unless the situation happens and plays itself out.

He already made it clear he wants to be a starter, wants to get paid, and wont play nice if he doesnt get his way.

We are already have a solid team, why bring in a headcase who could cause problems when you could find a veteran who will play hard for a mil or two and not cause a scene?
