Trade: Min-Cha

Post#1 » by The J Rocka » Thu Jul 16, 2009 11:54 pm

Trade: Min-Cha

Wolves trade: Darius Songaila $4,526,000
Wolves receive: Raja Bell $5,250,000

Bobcats trade: Raja Bell
Bobcats receive: Darius Songaila

You guys are already over the salary cap, are under orders from owner Bob Johnson not to go over the luxury tax threshold of $69.9 million.

Doesn't a Darius Songaila-Raja Bell swap seem to make a lot of sense? Obviously, it would result in both rosters being more balanced. Bell only has one year left on his contract; Songaila has two. So I'm not sure if Charlotte would be nuts about taking on that extra year. But if Robert Johnson is making it a priority to avoid the luxury tax this year, he'd be saving $750K of salary in 2009-2010.

BTW... that $750K savings Charlotte would get from a R.Bell-D.Songaila swap would be plenty enough to sign Derrick Brown, their 2nd-round pick.

What do you guys think??

negative. we have no depth at sg.

no need to trade a starter level player on a good team for a 3rd string level pf to save a tiny bit of money (in nba standards)

We've already signed UPS (D.Brown):

and even if we hadn't there isn't any way in the world I would make this trade.

Oh okay..it wasn't my idea it was in a discussion on our local newspaper website, quite honestly i thought it would be dumb for you guys made this move, even tho u guys have some pretty expensive contracts on your current roster, so it would make sense to trade somebody to free up some cap

I would maybe tho trade Bell in the future for someone better than Songaila, unless they are confident he will sign an extension after this season

Give us our draft pick back that you got from Denver and take Raja. Do you have cap space to do that with? What about Raja for Greene?

Yeah we have the room but our GM wants to save most of our cap for next summer, if we were to acquire Bell, you guys would have to take one of our exp contracts, i wouldn't want to give up that draft pick for Bell because the odds of him staying on the Wolves for a while are very slim, and he would run to NY to play for his old pal

I agree.
I don't know if I have seen a worse trade proposal!

Not true.

07-08 Al Jefferson + Marco Jaric to Bulls for Ben Wallace + future 1st round pick

Wow what a dumb trade scenario. First off, the Bobcats aren't even close to the luxury tax threshold. Second, they were very close to making the playoffs last year so why would they trade their starting SG for a backup to Emeka Okafor?
That trade makes no sense, and the Wolves have to look elsewhere to get a SG. I would recommend the Warriors, they are loaded with wing players. Or better yet, rewind the clock two months and maybe the Wolves won't waste three draft picks on three point guards.
In all seriousness. Maybe the Wolves should try a trade with the Bucks for Redd. Redd obviously doesn't mind playing on a small market team, so package Etan Thomas, Brian Cardinal, and Darius Songalia for Redd. The Bucks get expiring contracts for Redd, who obviously won't opt out of his final contract year, and the Wolves get a cute duo of AJ and MR.

If the Wolves have a strong interest in a deal with the Bobcats of any type i'd think it would be Gerald Wallace who would really erase a major need for the franchise where they have a serious lack of talent, slashing, defense and athletic ability.

If i'm the Wolves i'd give the Bobcats back their owed 1st round pick, Ryan Gomes and one of the expirings in a heartbeat. I'd likely be willing to eat Nazr two remaining years if the Bobcats pushed hard enough.

Wallace would make a huge impact offensively and defensively for the Wolves and they'd never have to ask him to play PF in a smallball lineup which is where he is more likely to get beaten up.

Crash for Etan Thomas/Charlotte's pick

Nazr for Gomes/Brewer.
