According to a source familiar with the situation, the Red Sox have designated Julio Lugo for assignment. The Red Sox will have 10 days to assign Lugo's contract to another major or minor league club, whether it be via trade or through waivers. Lugo is finishing the third of a four-year deal which pays him $10 million per season. Lugo is hitting .284 in 37 games with the Red Sox this season.

Now does anyone even bite and trade for him, or do we give him a pile of cash and tell em to beat feet? I could really care less, I'm too happy right now to be worrying about minor details.
Update:

The Red Sox today officially closed the book on the Julio Lugo era, trading the once promising shortstop to the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder Chris Duncan and a player to be named later (or cash considerations).
Also pretty much signals the end of the Kotsay era too imo.
