Is it me or is there an '08 like Buzz again?

Post#1 » by Al-Haqq » Fri Jul 17, 2009 8:18 am

After bringing in Rasheed and the development especially Rajon and Perk made as well as BBD. The health of KG being back at 100% - by the season start, with Pierce and Ray doing their thing, is there an excitement like there was in 08?

I can definitely feel a buzz and even DA said that he feels this team is even better than the 08 team and he also affirmed there's a buzz.

So am I the only one pumped for Nov. tip-off?

Sign a decent 3/2 and pack up 1....and I will start to buzz.....Im pumped for the season....but 08 was like a dream....name another team ever that has got 2 HOFer's to add to an all ready potential HOFer....it was surreal

Wallace is not like the Ray trade let alone the KG one....but having said that....Im excited this season for other reasons....to see how far Rajon can go...how much has Perk improved, can he stay healthy....and this is soooooooooo gunna be Scal's break out years....he is a soda to average 3/1/.5!!!!!

it's just you, never has a team counted on so many old players and won a championship. your 4 best players are all over 30, and the best one had a major knee injury.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

I don`t really feel that there is the same buzz as in 08. Not even close. There is still work to do in free agency...

The 96, 97, & 98 Bulls send their regards.

Jordan, Pippen, Rodman all in their mid 30's in that run.

Plus Kerr, Wennington, Harper, Parish (40's! Mon Dieu!). All old farts. Course it helps to have Micheal, but the point is that 32 isn't old, even by NBA standards. Yeah, they're getting up there, but the team is built to win now, and if the players remain in good health the window of opportunity stays open in 2010 and 2011.

Yes and no, the only difference is I didnt know what winning would feel like in 08 before KG came in. Plus KG had a totally different buzz we pretty much went from nothing to contenders overnight. With Sheed we went from imo Contenders to Favorites.

IMO, although we are not one the level of the Bulls in the mid 90s... The Rasheed Wallace move was kinda like bringing in Rodman onto that bulls team. Just another all-star championship caliber forward to an already championship caliber team. VETERANS. Yeah it would be nice if our whole team was 28-29 but you can't have a team like that for a decade.

We'll fill our bench up.

It's hard to match 2008. We were literally the dregs of the league before the Ray and KG trades. All of a sudden we were the team to beat. That kind of turnaround happens maybe once a lifetime for a fan.

Now the Sheed pick-up prior to the summer of 2007 would have been epic. Now it's just another great signing. Although I can't remember a bigger FA acquisition the C's have made. LOL..

Bone spurs hardly constitute a major knee surgery, and this team won 62 games with KG missing almost half of them. Now they add Rasheed, Rondo has grown and... well just ask D-Howard how Perk does defending the paint.

I feel he buzz, not as much as going into '08 because we went from joke to relevency in one off-season. But it's definitely looking like an exciting season.

I'm not sure the 08 buzz could ever be met. Adding KG, RA, Posey, House, subtracting West, Gomes, Jeff and others, I had a enormous desire to see their first game just wondering whether what was done would work.

With this team I can pretty much visualize how it will work, because the starters are a known quantity, Sheed is a known element, and when you have the top 6 players in place the rest of it is just fine tuning. And it wouldn't surprise me if Davis resigned is the last move before training camp roster is announced.

I feel good about this team and it's chances, but its nothing like the anticipation of wondering just what that 08 team could do.

Celtics still need to figure out who is going to back up PP and Ray Allen. BTW Tony Allen sucks and is useless so he does not count.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

if we start blowing out teams by 20 - 30 points on a nightly basis like in 08.... then I think a buzz will be felt.

There's definitely a buzz, but I'm not sure it's possible to match the buzz that the 08 acquisitions brought. There's excitement, but the sheer wonder and questions that fans had prior to the 08 season won't be matched. Remember how many doubters there were prior to the 08 season? People were wondering if the big 3 could share the ball after years of being the man on separate teams, everyone was trying to envision how the offense would work, whether Ray and Paul would fully commit on the defensive end. There's a decent amount of excitement with bring Rasheed in, but the Celtics were the talk of the entire NBA fanbase before the 08 season, I don't think that will be matched by any team for a while.

No.

We're still not strong enough on the bench. We need a competent backup for Pierce. Once we get that, then you can start talking about a title.

Yes, but it's a different kind of buzz.

In 08 we had so many questions. Would they gel? Would they share the ball? Would they play D? Would Rondo and Perk bring the whole thing down? Was there any kind of a bench? It was exciting, but it was a lot more nerve-wracking. even when we started blowing out teams and ran off a great record, there was always the questions about would we be able to win in the playoffs? can a championship team be assembled in 1 year? (sheed said no way lol).

This year it's a different kind of buzz. i think there are a lot fewer questions. We know our starting 5. We picked up an excellent 6th man. It looks like we got Daniels who is a pretty good wing backup. Maybe we have a hole at backup PG, but it's not a disaster. Really the main questions are, can these guys stay healthy? And have other teams improved enough so they can beat us?

I feel a lot more confident going into 09-10 than 07-08.

I think the nba in general has a buzz going for it right now. There are 5 super teams. You got L.A(Kobe/Pau/Ron/Bynum/probally Odom) San Antonio (Duncan/Parker/Manu/Jefferson/McDyess) Cleveland (Lebron/Shaq/Williams) Orlando (Howard/Carter/Lewis/Nelson) and Boston (KG/PP/Allen/Sheed/Rondo)

Return to Boston Celtics
