Wiretap: Daniels Commits to Boston

Post#1 » by bc legends » Sat Jul 18, 2009 2:05 am

The Celtics will sign Marquis Daniels for their biannual exception if the Pacers aren't interested in a sign-and-trade.

A league source told Yahoo! Sports on Friday that Daniels had committed to sign with Boston.

The biannual exception is worth $1.9 million.

Sign baby and call it an offseason.

Side note: after watching the celtics for 20+ years it is nice that Boston has finally become a place the FA want to sign.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

He gets alot of slack in Indiana because of his demeanor but he truly is a different person then the one that stepped on the floor with the Mavs a few years back...The guy has a winning mentality and can drive, dish, and create an offensive...awesome pick up guys for a very solid team

I will be rooting down the line for Quis come next year...
Once they have that golden shining moment and it comes to them in a dream or whatever and they understand that, that's when this team and this franchise will go to another level from where it was when I was here.

The thing about a sign-and-trade is this -- even if it's for one year at short money, at least his Larry Bird Rights are preserved for future negotiations.

But Larry Bird has to cooperate in order for his Larry Bird Rights to be preserved. :)

hes still got a "thug" mentality sometimes...gets caught off guard trying to do too much...Boston with the vets you have will be able to stop that action quickly...I think Quis is underrated and will strive under Doc...

I'm loving this offseason. What a great couple of pickups in Sheed and Daniels, especially for the prices we got them at.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of Daniels, not sure how well he will fit in with this team. He does have talent, but seems like a mental midget much like Tony Allen.

Daniels does a little bit of everything. His natural position is the SG, but he can also play the SF due to his size and the PG because of exceptional handles and ball control. He has a good slashing game to go along with a solid mid-range game. The negatives are that he's a subpar outside shooter and passer. On the opposite end of the floor, he has the tools to play defense but needs marginal improvement.

This is a solid move by Ainge as Marquis adds depth and versatility to the Celtics' bench. Daniels is taking an massive cut from his previous contract. The biannual is a bargain.

Low risk, high reward. I like it.

I'm wondering the same thing but I think he may be just slightly better. Regardless, we're not giving up anything and if we've just added a taller, slightly more talented TA (better passer for sure) then I'm happy. This team is getting deep. We're just a good PG backup away from another ring.

he's my dream free agent signing for the wing position!!!! i'm so excited!

let's re-sign big baby then get either watson or barnes for the vet minimum and call it an offseason! start training camp and get into business early.

Patience is virtue. I know you guys are some of the most die-hard fans in basketball, but there's been one too many threads involving Glen Davis, Tony Allen, and Gabe Pruitt.

Props to Danny Ainge because he certainly cares about winning, and has done a tremendous job within the Celtic's limits. One or two minor moves and the Celtics should be good to go.

I really think that Daniels is the backup point and the backup sf. He's a 2 in 1 player. Call him the point forward if you want.

We really don't have any money left to spend besides minimum deals and guys like Tyronne Lue, and the Watsons don't deserve any playing time on our team. Our offseason will be done once Big Baby is brought back.

I have no respect for his jumpshot, but much respect for his abilities as a role player at every other part of the game. This is a solid pickup.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

You guys are gaining some quality depth, Daniels could become a pressure defender if he wanted to. I think playing with great players for the first time in his career should raise his game to another level. Scoring should be the least of his concerns, the Celtics have enough of that. His D could save Paul and Ray's legs for down the stretch. Nice pick up still.

OMG, that is so far from the truth it's scary.

1st off, let me say I love Daniels. I had him on my Fantasy team last year, so I fell in love with him. Look at his numbers last season in November, December and January. He was unreal.

The reason I say just those 3 months is after January, Dunleavey came back and Daniels was injured. Once he came back from his injury A) he wasn't 100% healthy and B) he went to the bench behind Dunleavey.

2nd, last year I was lucky enough to sit courtside for a game. The game just happened to be vs the Pacers. I watched Daniels absolutely shut down Pierce. It was a thing of beauty to watch.

Sure, it was one of the games where Paul was more of a facilitator and it was the game where Rondo had his 1st trip dubb. However, Daniels was on him like white on rice. Paul went for a shot and Daniels hand was there every single time.

I remember coming home to watch the game replay on CSN and Tommy Heinsohn couldn't stop raving about how unreal Daniels was doing defensively on Paul. Hell, Paul didn't even score until the 3rd quarter and ended up w/single digits I believe or something like 10 or 11 points.

Don't sleep on this guy. He's good for 10-4-2-1+ off the bench, which is great for this team. Not too mention he can easily start of Godforbid something happened to PP or Ray.

The one bad thing, he can't shoot the 3 for his life. Luckily, he knows that and doesn't shoot many.
Paul Pierce said it best about Caron Butler and the AS 2007 Game:

"Caron Butler should send me flowers for being injured so he could make the All-Star game, because if I was healthy, he wouldn’t be in there.”

he has played very well starting for the pacers last year and he played exceptionally well in one game i watched between indy and boston... great pick up for us. a guy who can start in most teams and could average 10ppg off the bench easily. his defense will be superb in this system and we finally have a guy big, strong and long enough to cover kobe or lebron.

i hope we could trade TA for hayes or dooling.
