Big Baby looks like he has lost a LOT of weight
Check this out: Maybe Baby can play that 3 a bit after all.
Here's a very recent pic of Baby posted by the guy with him. Apparently this was taken yesterday at the University of Houston rec center:

I appreciate the effort, Gant, but that photo in and of itself doesn't say a whole lot. However, I will take his word for it that he's been busting his butt and has lost some weight. His face looks slimmer I suppose???
I think people are nuts who think with Rasheed, Baby is expendable. This kid is a smart basketball player and has done nothing but improve in his first 2 years, and I don't see why that won't continue. Not at any cost, but BBD would round this team out (no pun anymore) perfectly for the upcoming season if Daniels is now a definite.

I REALLY Agree ...Big Baby has improved immensely in the 2 years he's been here--NO reason he won't keep getting better....I'm gonna believe what Ainge has been saying all along...That the team really wants to keep him-and WILL match, (unless he gets a Full MLE 5-6 year deal)--Ainge is just NOT bidding against himself right now.
AND, with a "Veteran" team--injuries come along...if we lose Big Baby AND Leon Powe in one off-season--we are screwed---even with the Rasheed signing.

Pre-draft BBD (and this is a more useful shot)..

BBD can diet and lose weight. Its keeping it off that is his problem. Interesting how both times in a contract year he managed to get slim. Hmm.

That's the key, Max. I was touting all through 08', although not here but on another board, that our lack of key injuries throughout the year and playoffs was uncanny and unusual, and to expect something to give soon enough. And soon enough, although halfway into the next season, we lost KG and the rest is history.
The thing is that injuries can happen to anyone at any age, but with a group of vets and a C with chronic shoulder issues (plus a young PG who rolled his ankle about 15 times last year), I'd go with strength of depth over counting on a 7-8-9-whatever rotation of mostly older guys sustaining 100 or so games reg. season + playoffs without incident. It goes without saying that every other team in the association faces the same problem, but what we did last season left us without a reasonable plan B (Mikki Moore is not the answer).
It's not my money but if you want that ring, you might have to pinch out a few more pennies to make it happen. I'd imagine it's tough to get that kind of depth out of a 15 man roster without some modicum of luck involved, any way you cut it.

Before I give this thing a rest........
Again, that photo is with a longsleeve shirt on.....I can suck it in and appear 20-30 lbs slimmer with the right shirt on, and I'm slightly-sub 200 bills
Guyclinch, my bad man.....sorry if I was a dick about the heights of guys, I'm just used to people skewing heights to make a point and it struck a nerve, but whatev, no harshies.
Glen Davis is always going to be a big body, whether at 320, 290 or 265 he just has that build. I think we're all just salivating at the explosiveness/athleticism he *may* possess if he ever did play at 265-270. Professional athlete or not, it is very tough for certain folks of certain genetics to maintain a certain weight, or heck maybe he is just lazy, I dunno.
I still think Glen, like Perk has done, can continue to improve his game over the next few seasons and possibly even shock some of his most ardent supporters. I'm not putting a ceiling on what he is capable of, I don't know, but I would love to see him develop as a Celtic and help us to another ring.

Re: Big Baby looks like he has lost a LOT of weight
Very well put, DunkOnFace.
Davis is an intriguing player to watch develop. It's like you watch him play and you can't help but think, what if he was a step quicker, or he could jump just a few inches higher? You can see that Davis thinks the game when he's out there and also that he's essentially fearless. He bodyslammed Shaquille O'Neal when he was friggin 15 years old, he's not backing down from anyone in the NBA from a strength perspective.
So, envisioning Davis' game at 265-270 is pretty exciting. He could be a very difficult matchup for Centers with increase footspeed, explosiveness, and range (& Height) on his jumper. On the other end he'd still be really strong but quicker, allowing him to get to the spot quicker in defensive rotations (something he struggled with a bit during the playoffs, which was likely exacerbated by MPG and role expansion). That mean's more steals, deflections, and charges taken.
If Davis is really all the way down to 270 you really have to look to make a reasonable investment into him this offseason. He would at least serve as a capable backup and definite injury insurance. And after the decline of Ray, Paul, KG and Sheed, Davis could slot in as a solid building block for the future a la Udonis Haslem (hopefully he gets more than one ring though).

^ LOL
Yeah Big Baby works out here in Houston, I see him often. When he has the entire control of how he's gonna look he can lose weight, and even keep strength. It's just when his focus isn't on the meal to meal diet, etc. he tends to put on more. I think he needs a nutrionist during the season IMO.

Come on you and I both know he looks just as skinny in that pre-draft shot. Clearly he has been down to that weight before in his last contract. Don't BS me with this "I can suck my gut in stuff." Its a fairly tight shirt. In the other shot he is wearing a t-shirt. Every guy in the world knows a tight synthetic shirt is harder to pull off then a t-shirt.
I actually AGREE with this thread. He has lost weight. But he has lost weight before. He gains weight during the season as does Pierce. It's crazy hard to watch your diet on the road, IMHO.

I'm not saying he hasn't lost weight, I'm just saying that a couple different photos are pretty inconclusive as to what he actually weighs at any given point. I saw a picture of BBD from last year when he was supposedly in one of his "fat" stages and I thought he looked similar in that pic ( which I don't remember where it came from , sorry) to the one with the nerd, but in reality there may be anywhere from a 10 -50 lb difference from one to the next. It's just hard to tell given the pictures. I think a large man like Glen Davis could fluctuate between a 10-15 lb range regularly without people being able to tell the difference. When it is noticeable is when he goes from, say, 310 to 275. Which is what may have happened over the past 6 months.
But yeah, regardless, he does looks much fitter now than he has at many points in the past and that's what's important (for now). I've never been as harsh on him in the past for weight management as some others have, mainly because it takes time and learned discipline to alter lazy eating habits/lifestyle/exercise regimens that you've been used to for so long. But going into his third professional year, I think he should be able to have it figured out by now. So far, so good, let's see if he can keep it up.

That would be a reason why I wouldn't mind seeing him sent away in a S&T.

His face looks thinner, so he has probably lost some weight.. I don't have much confidence in him keeping it off though. He could eat himself out of the league..

Re: Big Baby looks like he has lost a LOT of weight
I just saw part of Gary Tanguay's interview with Big Baby. Did anyone else see it?
Yes Baby has dropped a ton of weight. He looks great. Tanguay remarked on how much he'd lost. It was kind of remarkable.
This is surely going to give him more lift and quickness. With the logjam at the big spots I wouldn't be shocked to see them test Baby at the 3 (seeing that he can hit the jumper now).
He also was not happy about the tweeting imposter.

Re: Big Baby looks like he has lost a LOT of weight
It would be ideal if he could keep that weight off. I just don't think he can though. Temptations on the road, eating out at fancy restaurants. And in the off-season he's actually burning WAY more calories than he will once the games start. A lot of practice is not full out ball. And he probably won't be playing more than 20 minutes or so each game. He should do Bikram yoga!
