As far as scoring goes I see him as more of a Tony Parker than Chris Paul. He does seem to have that great PG ability though to make players better. Siler has been looking good and I think a part of that can be chalked up to Flynn. Just like how Paul makes everybody think Tyson Chandler is this borderline hall of fame center.

Thats our biggest issue. IMO it depends on what Kahn thinks of some of our veterans, and if he wants to keep them around.

Note: We currently have 14 players under contract (this obviously does NOT include Rubio)

There are two non-roster guys we should try to keep (in this order): 1. Siler and 2. Harris

And here are the guys we could buyout:

1. Brown (His contract is rather small)
2. Cardinal (I like him, but we now have a younger, better, cheaper version in Pecherov)
3. Thomas (Decent, but we can live without him)
4. Madsen (I hope it doesn't come down to this)

Personally I would buyout Cardinal, sign Siler/Harris, and go with a lineup of:

Flynn / Telfair / Brown (NBADL)
Ellington / Harris
Gomes / Brewer
Love / Smith / Pecherov / Songaila / Madsen
Jefferson / Thomas / Siler (NBADL)

As rev has said, Kahn is looking to make a splash at the trade deadline, and he will want to keep the expirings around (ala calvin booth last year). Thomas and cardinal, as the 2 largest expirings, are very very unlikely to be waived before the trade deadline.

the most likely to be waived is brown because his contract is so small, then madsen, who could be waived and then offered a position on the coaching staff, then pecherov who has some talent.
In my opinion it is really not worth it to sacrifice trade flexibility in order to add minimal bench talent (as much as i don't want cardinal playing). The teams (like NY, CLE, MIA) desperate for 2010 cap room might pay a pretty high price to move 2010 salary, and over the course of the season you never know who might become available.

If rubio signs then we are already at the maximum of 15, and brown is expendable.

Personally I would like to see madsen retire and join the coaching staff if they need a spot.

Also, if rubio doesn't sign his cap hold disappears on the first day of the regular season, and we suddenly will have 3.0 million in cap room, which we could use to take on a contract from a team in the lux in exchange for a nice asset (young project or draft pick) much like we used the trade exception in the carney deal.

Seeing OKC waive earl watson was utterly confusing, since he's a big expiring and serviceable player. The consensus over there was that OKC isn't going to be making a trade deadline deal or big play in FA this year or next, which is a surprise.

A few quick observations.

Josh Heytveldt looked frickin' awful on both ends of the court. I remember some talk about us going after him with a late pick. Glad we didn't.

It's Blatche's 5th year in the league, he's still playing Summer League ball and looking pretty bad. I feel bad for the kid, but I don't think he's got it in him to ever be consistent and valuable in the NBA.

Loved seeing Ellington outplay Henderson, who looked like he was really pressing. Ellington's game looked much smoother, but that may just be that he's gotten more burn and had the time to get comfortable.

Love Siler's effort, the fact that Pecherov might actually be a nice bench compliment to Love and Jefferson (he can D up reasonably well down low, but play behind the arc on offense), I love watching Ellington shoot, and Flynn's penetration and ability to finish is jaw-dropping.

It's only summer league, but I'm getting excited for this team. Can't wait for:

1 - Rubio/Flynn
2 - Flynn/Ellington/Brewer
3 - Turner/Gomes/Brewer
4 - Love/Pecherov/Lawal
5 - Jefferson/Alabi
