That doesn't work under the salary cap. NY would have to send back matching contracts, so I assumed expirings would be good.

Assuming the Knicks have cap room, why wouldn't it?

Im getting sick of these lets trade Amare crap. watch when Amare gets traded. you guys are going to be whinning about how bad a GM kerr is because of unequal value in return. Bottom line I want to see AMare play here next season as a sun. I also want to see him actually being a man of his word by working on his motor. I think right now, Jordan Hill will not be as good as amare right now. Jordan hill has the same weakness as AMare but he is not as naturally as gifted as Amare. I Think the suns should just ride this out and if he can prove he is a franchise player then resign him. If not then let him go. its going to be hard to sign a marquee free agent away from their home teams because money wise they get more money to stay. I think Kerr, SArver and the rest of the organization needs to focus on winning and bringing a quality, competitive team. Wait and see what AMare does next season then decide on febuary whether to keep him or let him go.

Warden's right - that's how Seattle took KT from us; they had cap space so they took his salary and we took nothing back.
I doubt NY would want to commit the space they've managed to free up though, at least this early in the proceedings. opinion seems split on whether Mike D loves Amar'e or wouldn't want to deal with him again.
Maybe at the deadline, if Amar'e is going good .... there may be any number of suitors

But really, doesn't everyone think that this 2010 free agent free for all is really just a product of the media inflating a potential situation? LeBron is unlikely to go anywhere given the difference in money CLE can give him under the rules. Wade maybe could jump but he doesn't guarantee a championship, great as he is. Bosh is most likely staying in TO but he doesn't put a team like NY into contention.
The economy is not likely to have recovered enough so that owners open up their wallets ...

If the cap and lux boundaries are adjusted downwards, it's going to be very hard to woo any of these big names and still assemble a decent cast around them.

I made this trade on the theory that the Knicks would have already spent all their cap space on other players (Wade, Joe Johnson, whoever). Even after the Knicks spend all their cap space, they can still do a sign and trade, but Phoenix would have to be willing to participate and take on salary.

The trade comes down to two things:

1.) Would you guys be willing to work a sign and trade sending Amare out, if says he will not sign with Phoenix?

2.) If so, are you willing to pay one year of Curry's and Jefferies' contracts for the benefit of getting Jordan Hill?

My trade is based on Amare being a free agent and being able to walk away from you guys with nothing. If were willing to accomodate the Knicks in doing a sign and trade, you get Jordan Hill and Expiring contracts.
