Martin's Ankle Healed And Other Tidbits

Post#1 » by KF10 » Mon Jul 20, 2009 7:28 am

The pain has worn off now, with Kings shooting guard Kevin Martin concerned only with the physical kind and refusing to acknowledge the emotional.

He swears there are no hard feelings, that the criticism he endured related to his left ankle last season didn't linger like the injury itself. No, the healing process has run its course. And Martin, who missed 31 games in all while so many fans and some media questioned his toughness in the following months, is ready to bounce back.

"(The ankle) just needed rest," Martin said earlier this month while watching the Kings at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

"It's starting to feel much better now. I'm watching the workout tape from when we were (training) in Florida last (summer), and it's amazing watching the tape how explosive I was. It's starting to get back there. I'm not going to put a percentage on it or anything, but I feel damn good right now."

Umm, ok.

Anyways, I think he will turn a lot of critics head around when Martin finally develops a consistent overall game for next season. I can feel it and know he will work hard to establish that into his game. He has the intelligence to develop and learn to the next level.

I don't know why people here (minority) are so definite and conclusive that Martin should be traded. It baffles me.

To get to the next level, he needs to improve his defense and prove he can be a go to guy at end of games. Thats the next step IMO
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

i strongly agree, the main areas martin's game definitely needs to improve. i also agree to the fact that while last year, martin could score 70 points and we will still lose, martin needs to learn how to not only impact the improvement of his other players, but needs to be the game changer. martin understands that.

There was a little confusion about the article theme. It talks about Martin's ankle the most but part of the article does deal with the speculation of Martin's availability in trades though.

If the Kings did look to trade Martin, would they look to move him for a PG and then shift Evans to SG?

If not what would they target?

It briefly mentions his trade value is high, or the team is more willing to trade him than ever before. It does not say "we are shopping Kevin Martin." I just think the piece was a little speculatory by the columnist.

^^^Exactly. It was speculative attribute in the article. It may or may not have merit but trading Martin is highly improbable at this point.

I wouldn't say highly improbable that Martin will be traded but I would say the rumor is out of left field though.

You are correct. I kinda went overboard with the term. But come on now! You know my stance with Martin haha But yeah, it is totally out of the left field. 8-)

Bobcats call dibs. Might we be able to interest you in a lovely backup veteran center with a near expiring contract and an expiring starting caliber wingman?

If you're lovely back up vet center in Emeka Okafor and the expiring contract of the starting caliber wingman is named DJ Augustin, ABSO_FREAKING_LUTELY.

I think that, at least for the time being, we can forget about trading Kevin for a PG (unless it's a no-brainer deal). We drafted Evans to play him at PG, and I don't see that changing until it's really clear that that can't happen. I don't think we will have been able to come to that decision for at least a season or two.

That's what I would do if I was going to trade him. I see Evans as more of a SG anyway.

I'm really interested in seeing what an Evans/Martin backcourt might do. It could be absolutely brilliant, or it could be an utter disaster. I want to see that first before we start thinking about trading Martin. Before the draft, I was 100% behind trading Martin (for the right price of course), but now I'm not so sure.
