Someone with CBA knowledge: is it possible that we signed Thabeet for only two years? I thought first rounders got 4 year deals, and only four year deals. Also, if it is only a two year deal, do we still get bird rights?

It was just bad verbiage on the press release. ALL first round contracts are technically only 2 year deals. Starting with year three is always a team option. Year 4 is a team option and 5 is the qualifying/RFA year if the player isn't extended.

Ah, thank you. The implications of a two year concerned me - basically that the Grizz would spend two years working to make Thabeet a capable NBA C only to see him walk for nothing.

Yeah the press release was bloody awful as initial reports said the deal was for $7.7 million which was also impossible since the salaries are slotted. No way was the kid going to take a paycut because of a terrible week of summer league ball unless Master P was his agent.
