Re: Tom Moore 2.0
When i was making the post above I almost left out Willie Green. The Sixers have players that should get some minutes but not many players that should get a lot. hopefully a trade is made to get the rotation set.

Dalemebrt minutes could go down some games where he gets into foul trouble or isn't playing good and Kapono could get more minutes if hes hot or if his shotting is really neded. Any free agents signed probably won't and shouldn't get that many minutes. All that is really need is a vet PG that can manage a game and hit a couple 3's and a big body to throw at some of the big frontlines.
Williams 26
Igoudala 40
Thad 38
brand 36
Dalembert 28
Speights 18
Smith 14
Holiday 10
Kapono 10
Green 10
3 free agents 10-18 minutes depending on matchups
I really think this is a GREAT point. You have Green in here. So, our biggest questions this year are:
1. Growth of Williams, Thad, AI9 on their shooting
2. Brand and Smith on rehab
3. Dalembert - what does he do?
I think you are low on Kapono, hopefully high (I am dreaming) on Green!
Great points, kind of encouraging!

Maybe Miami?
Why not New York? I would do a deal for Nate Robinson... What's the matter with that?
Robinson's game is similar to Lou Williams'. Don't think the Sixers would want a repeat player.

LOL. You're probably one of the few that forgot about Willie Green, even if it was only for a moment. I have a prediction that I think could well happen. I think that Green becomes the new veteran PG for this team since Eddie Jordan apparently doesn't distinguish much between the skill set of a PG & SG anyway. I can see Green launching those jumpers when he's open in the PO.

Tom,
If you were the sixers GM and had a choice of the remaining free agents, what choices would you make for the guard, backup swing and big man or two? I also want to add to the others who have expressed their appreciation to you for your time and interest in this board.

Yes, I see Green launching those jumpers just like last year and missing it all, into the stands. If Green is shooting jumpers for us this coming year, lottery, here we come! No question about that imo.

Green is an above average mid range shooter. This team's best. He shot a slightly higher percentage than Rip Hamilton.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
Barkley was on Sports Final and I pretty much agree with everything he said. He thinks the Sixers should try to trade Brand, because they are stuck in mediocrity, and need to get out one way or the other. Since they won't be an elite team, they need to go the other way.
He mentioned the Bulls and forget who else as teams we should call.
I don't think we could trade Brand though unless he proves he's 100% during the season, then maybe we could move him at the deadline. Anyway, good stuff from Charles tonight as usual.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
Green is a decent bench scorer, but probably won't get much playing time with Lou starting, Holiday getting some minutes and Kapono getting most of the backup SG and SF minutes. Hopefully a playoff team in the west looking for some depth and bench scoring will be inclined to take on Green's year and half conract at the deadline. If Green gets traded at the deadline it would probably coincide with Holiday getting an increase is playing time.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
Brand will never be the same player after the achilles tear, but he could still have a few very good seasons. he has a good basketball IQ and his game was based more on positing and efficient scoring rather than athleticism.
What teams would want to trade for Brand? I'm thinking a team thats whats to win now might like the Mavs, Nuggets, or cavs. Maybe a team that needs rebounding or post scoring like the Bulls, Pacers, or Bobcats. The returns in a trade might not be that great but Brand has a lot of guarenteed money left. Trading talent and receiving a contract with less years might be valued around the league at this time.

How can an unfortunate injury change the complexity of our situation?
Brand is exactly what we needed, trading him now would push us 1-2 steps back. Let's wait and see what this core does, and towards the tradling deadline and go from there.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
Brand could be a good player for a team closer to contending. He could help the Sixers reach the second round. Its unlikely they go to the conference finals though. The problem is when the young players peak brand will be a shadow of his former self at that point. Also the Sixers are going to have to build a really good deep team to to over come the really good Cavs and Magic teams of the next decade. The Heat coud also make some noise the next few years by adding some good players around a superstar like Wade.

"The good Cavs teams of the next decade".The Cavs won 20+ games they had no business winning, that's not happening again. 60+ win teams are usually good except otherwise noted. The East was THAT bad.
If you beat on the celler dwellers of the league, it really increases your chances at a top-seed.
As a perfect example: The Atlanta Hawks, a team we're without doubt superior too claimed a higher seed.
Do you really think that Cleveland wins more games then ORL does against the Lakers? No way in hell.
Shaquille O'Neal is just a big name that costs too damn much for his role: To bang with Howard.
You can't run the pick and pop/roll with Shaq, and that was how the Cavs won their 60+ games. Shaq and Varejao will clog up the paint like hell.
Danny Ferry is the WORST GM in the past 3-5 years, and there's a certain guy named LeBron James that keeps that team from falling apart.

PG-Williams
Let me explain the difference between Shaq and Z for this lineup. When the Lakers won their 3 NBA titles. Along with Shaq/Kobe, you had an Horry, a Fisher or a Fox. 3pt shooters that would get the hell outta their way.
You don't have that now. Varejao clogs that paint. Williams/West are decent shooters, not great shooters.
Shaq doesn't fit AT ALL on this basketball team.
You could've gotten a banger for the Vet Min. Shaq? That was to appease LeBron. But LeBron wants a title, not a big name.

I don't know if Shaq makes the Cavs win a title, but he does still need to be double teamed. The Cavs have some other issues so they probably won;t win a title with Shaq. if the Cavs keep Lebron though over the next decade they will have some pertty good teams. In probably 2 seasons Leron will be the best player in the NBA probably by a fairly wide margin. I'm not saying the current Cavs team is great but over the next several years good players will want to join Lerbon and the Cavs. Superstars are what wins in the NBA and Lebron will be the best player in a few years so his team will most likely be very good. I could see the Cavs still making a somewhat big move though. Maybe trading Big Z for somelike like Michael Redd and signing a big body or play some small ball to create matchup problems.

I think trading Big Z for someone like Sam Dalembert guarantees them a championship, no, make that many championships, for many years to come. I don't know why they haven't already done it. Someone suggest it immediately to Cavs top brass.

Michael Redd would be PERFECT for that basketball team. Maybe, try Tracy McGrady. If he's healthy, it's gonna be huge.

PF-Varejao
SF-LeBron James
SG-Tracy McGrady
PG-Mo Williams.
That might be a bit more balanced.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
Been asked why the Sixers would go into a rebuilding mode -- by not re-signing Miller or by (probably) not using the MLE one year after signing Brand to an $82 million contract. It's a reasonable question. From what I hear, Sixers were willing to trade Miller at the Feb. 19 deadline, but couldn't get anything worthwhile in return. With the cap and luxury tax declining this year and again in 2010, the Sixers have decided to turn the page to Williams/Holiday/vet-minimum salary PG.

So the Sixers have decided to turn to the lottery page Tom? Awesome.
