who makes our roster out of Summer league and OD depth chart

Post#1 » by Mcfale313 » Sun Jul 19, 2009 12:29 am

assume Rubio not coming this season
Right now these players are locked to make the team

Al Jefferson
Kevin Love
Ryan Gomes
Jonny Flynn
Wayne Ellington
basti Telfair
Craig Smith
Etan Thomas
Corey Brewer
Mark Madson
Darius Songaila
Brian Cardinal

thats 12, 3 spots left, I would give Pecherov a chance, resign Carney, and not wasting money to waive Brown to round up the roster, and Madson, Cardinal, Brown goes to injured list

our depth chart on opening day

Jefferson/Thomas
Love/Smith/Pecherov
Gomes/Songaila/Brewer
Carney/Ellington/Brewer
Flynn/Telfair

ya?

Kurz and Parada are definitely getting spots on the squad.

I'd just as soon offer Harris a contract instead of Brown/Carney. Harris plays D and he's cheaper than Carney.

Pecherov and then I would try to sign either Coby Karl or Micah Downs.

I would bet most teams will carry 13-14 players, Wolves included.

I really really like Paul Harris and agree with E-money in that I would much rather have him than Carney/Brown. Id be shocked if we kept more than one, maybe two players off the SL roster. I dont see a spot for Brown on this team, i understand the minor need for a 3rd PG and he doesnt make a lot of money to boot, but id much rather have the roster spot.

I'd rather have Ben Woodside than Bobby Brown.

i'm not sure Kurz makes the team, i'd bet anyone we bring in outside of who we have is out of the guard/forward mold

PG = Flynn, Telfair
SG = Ellington
SF = Gomes, Brewer, Cardinal
PF = Love, Jefferson, Smith, Songaila, Madsen
C = Thomas

Pecherov and Siler bring totally different offensive styles. Defense is the key. Pecherov can help spread the floor. I'm not sure Siler fits Kahns running game at this stage, and the NBDL may be the best way to condition him.

Ellington looked real good IMO.
Paul Harris = I like him as well. He's not a big stat guy, but won't hurt you and helps defensively.

Rubio ??? ...Will be the starting PG.

Carney = okay if a cheap one year deal, but we'll wait it out I'm sure.
Brown = has shown no reason for us to hang on to him. Insurance.

Carney won't be back, how did Songalia become a SF and Opec a PF?

C - Jefferson/Thomas/Pecherov
PF - Love/Songalia/Smith/Madsen
SF - Gomes/Cardinal
SG - Ellington/Brewer
PG - Flynn/Telfair/Brown

Potentially Rubio in there as well. With Rubio that's 15 and we don't sign anyone from the SL team that's not already under contract. If we get Rubio over here we'll likely cut Brown and sign someone who can play the 2 and the 3. Harris?

If Rubio comes over, doesn't something have to be done with Telfair? I wouldn't assume Brown is gone in that scenario.

Preferably Telfair would be moved, yeah. Just moving that extra year off the books would be good. I was thinking strictly on a talent stand-point and who's the easiest to cut. Telfair clearly has more talent and would be the worst to just cut outright. If we could package him and ideally Songalia for an expiring, that would be orgasmic. I just figured that was obvious.

I think it's a little bit more urgent than that. Telfair is still a young point guard looking to make a name for himself, he can't play at all with either Rubio or Flynn, he's probably pretty decent friends with Jefferson and Gomes, and he's going to be upset if doesn't play . It could cause a significant lockerroom issue, which would be dumb considering the caliber player involved.

I don't disagree with you at all. Just a matter of finding a taker who'll provide something of value, be it talent or an expiring. We can't just cut him and eat that 2.7mil in 2010.

YAY!

* Bobby Brown’s dwindling playing time as the week wore on suggests he won’t be on the roster by opening night, either by being packaged in some kind of trade or simply have the year remaining on his contract bought out.

If the Rube comes, and I'm confident he will, I can see Telfair hang around if Flynn is officially tagged with a combo-guard label. Still, I doubt Telfair would be happy as a backup to Rubio and force us to move him asap and give Bobby Browns an in short-term.

We need perimeter offense and I gotta think Pecherov has a fit ... if he can get up and down the floor, rebound, and hit a few three's. Rubio and Flynn could potentially set him up all day long.

Even if Rubio comes and Flynn plays off the ball in the 15 minutes a game that he's out there with Rubio, we all know that Flynn is still a PG. I do agree that especially if Rubio comes, Telfair is the odd man out, and should probably be moved since he's not going to be psyched about going from starter to 3rd string. The fact that moving him would clear more 2010 space is not to be forgotten, obviously.
