A good yahoo article imo. Do yall think his legacy is secure as an NBA player, global icon?

Global Icon yes. NBA player maybe.

I think Yao is a borderline HOF. Borderline only because of his international background.

Global icon for sure.

He isn't a hall of famer though. Just another big guy who couldn't take the pounding of an NBA season. But to his credit he was the best player of his size ever.

if Drazen Petrovic is in the HOF then Yao should be too.

I have no doubt Yao will come back stronger than ever but as a Laker. I'm still a Rox fan and am telling you guys to forget about Yao 2010-2011 because he will be a Laker.

if you guys want to offer Yao more than the $17.6 million in his player option go ahead. i don't think he will turn it down.

His career isn't over yet.

Obviously, that's my sincerest hope, but it could also just as easily be the end of his career. If that's the case, I don't think there's any question he makes the Hall of Fame. He's been good since he stepped on the floor for the first time. And over the last three years, he's been unquestionably one of the best players in the world. Just couldn't stay healthy. A good guy who played equally hard for his team and his country. A global sports icon. Made basketball more popular In the most populous country in the world. Lived clean and honest. He's in, for sure.

Just couldn't stay healthy. :(

Pretty sure we don't need Yao here in LA. They have Gasol and Bynum to man the Center position. Most Laker fans really do enjoy Yao and are rooting for his comeback. We know what it's like to have a big go down twice in two seasons with a major leg/foot injury. Yao Ming coming back healthy is a win-win for the NBA and for all 29 teams besides the Rockets. He's a class act and one of the few players in the league who's devoted himself to the team since day 1. Hope he can come back next season healthy.
