Mariners (46-42) @ the Tribe (35-54)
Greg Olson (3-2, 4.42) vs. Cliff Lee (4-9, 3.47)
Felix Hernandez (9-3, 2.53) vs. David Huff (4-3, 6.71)
Jarrod Washburn (6-6, 2.96) vs. Tomo Ohka (0-3, 6.40)
Erk Bedard (5-2, 2.63) vs. Aaron Laffey (3-2, 4.24)
Big pitching advantage for us this series. If Olson can hold his own versus Lee, you can't ask for a better set-up. Not going to catch anybody in the standings by not winning series like this, ones where we're better and should win. Take care of business.

A sweep would be sweet.

Yeah...they're not very good [which surprises me], so a sweep would be very helpful.

The first game is key in this series. In spite of Lee's record, he's probably still their best starter. Then we marshal out our big 3 for the last three games of the series. I think we play the Indians 7 out of the next 10 games. Time to do some damage.

Damn. We're going to be 5 games back after tonight. We're approaching the borderline of falling out of the race again. For some reason to me, 6-7 games back now seems too much for the M's to overcome. They just don't seem like a team that can pull off much of a winning streak, or able to win, say, 7 out of 8. They just don't have the bats. I suppose they could get lucky, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

Ryan Rowland-Smith is 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA in his last 3 starts at Tacoma, according to the TV crew. Better velocity on the fastball, improved command on the curve.
So much starting pitching. If management is indeed sincere about contending this year, it'd be kind of nice if they didn't wait till the deadline to pull in a bat.

The big question is what can Batista get us?

5-0 M's through the top of the 6th. Felix pitching another gem through 5 innings. 2 hits, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts.
Damn M's. Make an upward move, or cut me loose. I'm going nuts here in limbo-land.

Re: Mariners (46-42) @ the Tribe (35-54)
Mariners win 3-1. I'd argue that a poor call at the plate cost Wash a shut-out (though he only pitched through 7). In any case, Jarrod continues to astound. Seattle's offense will keep him from matching his career best in wins (2002's 18-6), but he has a great chance at matching some of his best season-long ERA performances (2002's 3.15, 2005's 3.20). He lowers his ERA to 2.87 after tonight.
Well, we're 48-43, going for the series win tomorrow with Bedard on the hill. Texas is losing 4-1 in the 8th tonight. LAA won.

I just checked in to espn to see what happened tonight. Wow! Our pitching is just off-the-charts this year. Unbelievable.
On another note...TOM WATSON IS LEADING THE BRITISH OPEN AFTER 3 ROUNDS. THIS IS INSANE! HE'S EFFING 59 YEARS OLD. I'm up early tomorrow to watch this. Win or lose, what a story in sports.

3-0 M's in the 1st! Great start. Ichiro singled, Branyan hit a HR. Chris Shelton doubled, Gutierrez singled him home.

We had to win 3/4 in this series and our guys didn't let us down. Great job.
Big ups to the bullpen, especially today. They gave us a scare but all of them came through. Lowe was flat out filthy.
Gutierrez is a beast and Ichiro is still God.

Ichiro needs to jump at the wall to catch the final out, the ball an inch from tying the game. Now that's a web gem.

Unfortunately, the Angels just can't lose right now...or maybe the A's just can't win.

This has really been the disappointing thing. It seems like every effing time the M's win the Angels win. Worthless effing A's. Even the Yanks. The Angels schedule up ahead looks pretty easy, too. We're just going to have to go on an improbably long winning streak to close the gap.

Better than Crawford's All-Star 'MVP' catch.
