if anyone still cares...

...Jerry Reinsdorf talked today about old Gasol/Bulls discussions.

There's a perception, rightly or wrongly, this organization moves slowly on big trades. What's your response?

We've made a lot of trades. I don't think we move too slowly. [ Pau] Gasol, we didn't move slowly. We said no. We were prepared to give them players. What they wanted to do was dump stuff on us that we would be immobilized and we wouldn't be able to improve our team. Gasol made sense for the Lakers because, what is he, their third best player probably? He would've been our best player at that time. It would've been the wrong role for him. John and Gar decided they didn't want Gasol under those circumstances where he would be the last piece and we'd be immobilized under the cap.

In other words, since the Bulls wouldn't trade back parts with expiring contracts, the Grizzlies wanted to offload Cardinal as well. Bulls said no, Lakers said say hello to Kwame's expiring deal and some picks and the rest is history...

What's important is that other front office people realize that Pau is not an Alpha Dog. What will forever hurt is the belief that we could have gotten a lot better than we got even though the return is not looking awful currently.

If they sign Rudy to a max level deal (regardless of what Bragnani got) it would be repeating history all over again. Rudy is a good player but exactly the same guy Pau was. Athletically gifted but mentally weak.

Yup - it's always been my view that the only mistake made in moving Pau is that the Grizz did so too soon - as in there was two weeks left until the deadline. You just can't convince me that we couldn't have squeezed just a little more out of the Lakers (or someone else for that matter) instead of bowing to Heisley's will right away.
