Does Shaq concern you??

Post#1 » by shortodom » Tue Jul 21, 2009 10:51 pm

He's going to host Raw and have his own show, when is he going to start getting in the gym? Especially if it's the last year you have Lebron on your team if you don't win a championship. I'm not a Cavs fan but i'd be concerned and a little pissed if he were on my team... He has to work in the offseason to get his body ready for the regular season or he could get injured at his age, weight and height. Doesn't seem like he's taking this season coming up too seriously

Not that worried. Shaq is in a contract year, he will be motivated to get another extension.

At the end of the day, $$ talk.

+1

At this stage in his career he's a role player who will get 25 to 30 minutes a game like 'Z' did last season.

There are still 24 hours in a day last time I checked. Im pretty sure he can work in some personal stuff to go along with all of his workouts. Its not like anyone works out for 12 hours a day, especially not an older guy like Shaq.

itd be like criticizing kobe for doing the tonight show, jimmy kimmel show and the espys and not using that time to train...you are going to burn yourself out if you train all hours of the day and not take some to relax a little bit

Shaq will be Shaq, this kinda stuff comes with the territory. He's still the second best center in the east.

According to an insider who works for the Cavs in different roles, Shaq is in GREAT shape at the moment.

That reality show sounds like cross training, lol.

I'm not worried about Shaq. He's supposedly in great shape right now, is going to get plenty of rest during the regular season, and is likely extremely motivated because he wants another contract and to silence Kobe.

Shaq currently trains in BJJ, MMA, and Yoga, and coming from someone that does all 3, I'd bet he's in better shape, even at 37 yrs old, than most of the players in the NBA. I've seen recent pics, and he is in great physical shape. Getting in game shape is a little different, but he will be there when needed. Don't worry, guys!

Not worried at all. Shaq has something to prove this year:
- Play with one of his best friends in the league (LBJ)
- 4 matchups against D12 in the regular season to show he can even compete at 37 with a young chicken :)
- possibility for a 7 game series against his former team the Magic with again D12
- possibility to play the Finals against another former team LA with his 'best friend' Kobe
- possibility to get his 5th ring. Bring championship to 2nd ring-less team after Miami. Get 1 ring on top of Kobe again and makes his legacy stronger.
- He wants to play two more years so he needs to prove he's worth the money

Either one of these reasons would motivate Shaq for an entire season, the combination of all will make him kick ass. He needs challenges. You could see that very well the latest matchup against Yao previous year, where he did stuff I didn't see him doing for at least 3 years. If he doesn't get injured, watch him put up the same numbers as previous year or do better.

As said previously in this topic, he's in great shape now and the show he will host has all to do with sports and condition: he will challenge top athletes in their own sport and train for it.

Historically Shaq has always gotten into shape in his first year with a new team, he did it with the last 3. No reason to think he won't be in shape in the fall.

How long does this stuff take out of his schedule? Like 10 hours a week max? there's plenty of time to fit in workouts. It's not like going on Raw once, and apperaing on a few shows is a 50 hour a week job.

I don't watch wrestling, but that can't take more then a few hours. Get a couple hour workout in in the morning. W/E. then the rest of the week the only thing on his schedule is posting on twitter, and thinking of ways to make fun of other players (prob Suns players) in the media.

If he's the second best, who is the best? I hope you're not going to say Howard being a Cleveland fan. Shaq would be very angry if he heard that. He hates Howard.

Actually Shaq is using the TV show as a workout program also. This isn't going to be a camera following Shaq around while he does nothing all day. It's a show where Shaq will be competing against the other person in their sports event. He will have a week to train for each of the events against his opponents.

The first week is Shaq Vs. Ben Rothlisberger

Other people who will be on the show through out the season are Michael Phelps, Albert Pujols Serena Williams and Oscar De La Hoya.

Sounds like a good way of working out.

Hey fellow rican!! I agree to a degree... but i think Shaq is not AS motivated as he was when he was coming to the Heat... i see him more promoting his show, his Shaqlyte diet and Shaq enlyten strips. Im a little worried, when he was coming to the Heat it was all his weight, his diet, workout routine etc.. now hes just this PR marketing guy who knows his days of an entrepreneur are counted and hes making the most of it. I dont see him as motivated as he should be. All this based on the media, his twitter and fb accounts.

Im a little worried... also he doesnt has the PHO medical staff here.. i dont know how good the Cavs staff is, but we all know that the Sns med staff was a HUGE part of Shaq's success last year.

From what I read earlier in the summer was that Shaq hired a team to follow the Phx training staff program. If so and they are similar or alike then I think Shaq will be fine. Cleveland has to make another move or 2 though seeing how pretty much all the top teams made more moves. The Cavs will be just fine though.

I can agree about Shaq also using his stay in the NBA as a way to promote his stuff. I also think he will do what he can to help the Cavs win also because winning promotes itself more also.
