MIN/SAS

Post#1 » by ritt0093 » Wed Jul 22, 2009 5:34 pm

This would have to be two simultaneous trades due to restrictions:

Trade 1
MIN in/SAS out
Matt Bonner (PF)
Marcus E. Williams

MIN out/SAS in
Darius Songaila

Trade 2:

MIN in/SAS out
Roger Mason
2010 1st round pick

MIN out/SAS in
Ryan Gomes

All contracts the wolves take in are expirings, and it trims that extra year off of Songaila's contract. I view Gomes much like Miller. A good player, but of minimal use here.

I'd do it for the 2010 cap space

I actually like this, even though I like Gomes a lot. Do we think the Spurs would go for these?

I don't think San Antonio goes for this. They just got Richard Jefferson, so they really don't have a lot of minutes at SF to give out. Plus they are a team with their stars getting up there in age, so why trade a first round pick? Mason is young too so why give up on him?

I like these deals. Only way the Spurs do it is if R-Jeff can play SG, which I doubt. Mason turns 29 before the season starts, so he's not exactly young. The 1st round pick is likely a VERY late 1st anyways, not sure it really benefits the Wolves too much.

But yeah, can't see the Spurs doing this due to the holes it creates.

What if Gomes were replaced with Brewer? Would that make it more realistic for the Spurs?

Probably less realistic.

Even though I have been a proponent of some of the cap-clearing, pick-acquiring moves Kahn has made, this trade proposal seems to go past the point of diminishing returns.

Gomes is a good player, and fits quite nicely into the team's rebuilding plans. This trade creates additional cap space that we would have to spend replacing the player that we give away. Doesn't make sense. Gomes is part of the solution, not the problem.

The trade/s seem/s equal in terms of talent with just the players involved. I don't see how the Spurs take on more guaranteed money and give up a first. In my opinion the first would probably have to go the other way.
