we just signed Theo Ratliff!

Post#1 » by mudyez » Thu Jul 23, 2009 4:54 am

nice signing...getting a shotblocker who can teach Ian some stuff

now all the rosterspots are gone...either Bowen isn't coming back, or there is another trade (2fo1) in the making!

Nice pick up, a nice veteran big to lend a hand quite literally. Now the off-season is just about complete.

Even though he won't play much, good signing.

Very solid signing for an insurance big man. I have a feeling another move will happen to clear up the front court.

Wow I really thought the FO was done for until training camp. You never heard us being mentioned once when talking about Ratliff. He's not a major pickup but will round out the bench very nicely. I feel much more comfortable having to really on a 36 yr old shot blocker off the bench than a 22 yr old injury prone player like Mahimni. Gotta think spurs move some of our bigs. Cant remember a time where we carried 7 bigs into the season.

Solid move. Speculation is that Bonner or Ian might be on the way out (if it's true, I hope it's Bonner).

Really good move. The Spurs didn't have a lot of weaknesses left, but backup 5 was one of them.

If Bonner is let go, there are plenty of teams who would love to have him and his ridiculous shooting percentages. Like the Raptors.

decent pick up for you guys, wont play much but a good insurance policy. seems like every elite team is stockpiling the bigs... wonder why :)

Didn't think we were done, and I think it's decent to say that were still not...

As said though, solid addition for the mid-deep bench - Ratliff is still adequate in limited minutes, and obviously will be in helping the younger bigs learn.

Well, I don't think we were gonna rely on Mahinmi for minutes anyways.

The frontcourt minutes are still set. McDyess and Duncan are locks. IMO Pop likes Bonner enough to give him 15 minutes. Blair is gonna get some playing time too. Those guys are likely our regular rotation. Ratliff may play when there's injuries or foul trouble, but it's not like the Spurs are gonna play all 12 guys every game especially once it gets closer to the playoffs.

The good thing thou, our frontcourt rotation didn't have a shotblocker or a true center. Ratliff is both. I'm hoping he takes Bonner's minutes. I really don't like Bonner. If shooting is what he provides, we already have that with McDyess.

Decent move for the Spurs. Like it was stated, Rat will not get to play much. He'll be more of a teacher for the bigs. Als, if Bonner is going to be move, who are the Spurs lookin to get back in the trade?

I don't know if we should trade Bonner for a PG, but I think that's one position we could surely have a little more depth on. Last year, Pop relied on SGs as our backup PG. Hill looked good in summer league, but that's just summer league. I think the Spurs could use an insurance policy at PG as a 3rd stringer.

Wouldn't mind a 3rd PG but would rather see Bonner get turned into some draft picks. Then again the value of expiring contracts have gone up not sure what we could get for him right now.

I didn't mind Brown when he was here, but the backcourt is pretty loaded.

Good depth signing, he gives us another big body in the middle who can block some shots and play some defense.

I like D. Brown he's a roadrunner but no need for him on this team. Not sure what else we need. If we trade bonner and mason or finley who do we go after? Do we just shed payroll for some future draft picks?

Now that Oberto signed with Wizards, for the same money who would you have picked? Oberto or Rattlif? I know Oberto signed for a bit more money than Ratliff but i am guessing he would have accepted a bit less to play back with Manu and the Spurs.
