Yet another Halladay trade thread: Brewers interested?

http://baseball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_ ... _halladay/

The Brewers are seen by baseball executives as a new serious player in the Roy Halladay sweepstakes and have a strong enough farm system to get a deal done.

Two top Brewers executives, Gord Ash and Dick Groch, scouted Halladay's most recent start, and word is going around baseball circles that Milwaukee could build a good package. One named that could be part of a large package is young left-handed pitcher Manny Parra. Parra, 26, is 4-8 with a 6.37 ERA but has looked good since returning from the minors. He was 10-8 with a 4.39 ERA last year.

Ash drafted Halladay right? I wonder if that attachment will factor in at all.

Is anyone here familiar with the Brew Crew's farm system? Who are their top prospects?

Their farm system did get a little depleted after trading for CC last year. After a brief search online, they have 5 players in the top 100 although no one player is a guaranteed stud . Alcides Escobar (34), Mat Gamel (54), Jeremy Jeffress (64), Brett Lawrie (86), Angel Salome (94)

A year late for the Brewers. At least four NL teams can piece together a better offer without even including their respective top prospect. The only one I like is Lawrie, but that's 90% because he's Canadian.

Jeffress was just handed a 100 game suspension after testing positive for marijuana for a third time. Another and he could be banned for life. I'm not anti-pot, but that's just plain stupid. Plus, with 55 walks in 60 innings pre-suspension, he's not making any top-prospect lists soon.

The Brewers also don't have a tonne of pitching depth in their system. They have Jake Odorizzi, and a couple low-minors guys in Cody Scarpetta and Wily Peralta, but not much beyond them.

I agree on both counts.

Personally I think the Jays need some position players much more than they need any more pitchers, so this doesn't bother me too much.

I'd rather have Kyle Drabek and Mike Taylor plus others

It's only natural that the Brewers are interested in Halladay, with former Jays GM Gord Ash in Milwaukee. If the rumour is true, and the package is centered around Parra, then this deal needs to be rejected. If you want the best pitcher in baseball, the Jays need top prospects in return - Gamel and Escobar and if you want, throw in Parra.

Hopefully this rumour has no legs.
