Injury to Griffin: Strained Shoulder

Post#1 » by ClipperDomination » Thu Jul 23, 2009 2:03 am

Blake Griffin will spend the next three to four weeks resting a strain to his right shoulder, which he incurred in the third game of the Clippers’ five game Las Vegas Summer League schedule last week. Griffin, named the League’s Most Outstanding Player, went on to average 19.2 points and 10.8 rebounds.

Griffin will maintain his normal lower body training and conditioning regimen, and will be further evaluated regularly. He was examined and diagnosed Tuesday by Clippers’ team physician Dr. Steven Shimoyama. A second examination Wednesday by Los Angeles-based specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum confirmed the earlier diagnosis and suggested protocol.

As a precaution, Griffin will be held out of the USA Basketball National Team Mini-Camp to which he was invited and which starts Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Heard he'll rest for 3-4 weeks. Luckily this isn't too serious.

If he played with the injury it can't be too bad. Gordon also started off with an injury. Well, at least it isn't during the season. =p

Of course Greg Oden got injured, he's a Blazer.

See how stupid that "logic" is?

Blake trains and plays hard. It is in the summer so as long as he's fine for training camp it's no big deal.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Lets get the injuries over with now, so we can be healthy for the regular season.

Yeah whatever, my shoulder hurts too. Big deal, he's fine. Now if those patella tendons and ACLs start acting up, then we can talk.

Get well soon Blake. And take great good care of yourself for the next three and a half months!

Obviously, I would love for him to be in the gym working out with the rest of the guys and improving his shot, but he probably could use the rest. From what has been said, he's probably put in more work than most players up to this point. I love the fact that he loves the game and is willing through play through a little pain. 3-4 weeks is not too long and will be over before you know it and it will leave him with plenty of time to get ready for the season.

Griffin should be back soon. The No. 1 overall pick was told late last month to rest his strained right shoulder for three to four weeks, and neither Griffin nor the Los Angeles Clippers believe the injury will cause any long-term problems.

“It’s one of those deals where it’s not like a serious injury, but it needed rest to get back to 100 percent,” Griffin said. “They just didn’t want me to go start playing again and do something to risk it further.”

Griffin said the injury wasn’t painful but limited his range of motion, preventing him from lifting his arm much above his head. He was forced to pull out of USA Basketball’s minicamp the day before it opened, but hopes to earn an invite to camp next summer.

“It’s not the first time they’ve had something like that happen,” Griffin said. “I’m not the only guy that had to sit out because of injury, but hopefully next year I’ll get another chance.”
