Rodney Carney

Post#1 » by ray ray » Fri Jul 24, 2009 1:20 pm

I was thinking why the Suns should go after Rodney Carney. A very athletic SG/SF who can shoot from beyond the arc. He would compliment Steve Nash since we are going to go back to SSOL system. Carney can run the fast beak and has some ridicules hops. He can also spot up from anywhere and if open can hit some j's. He's 6'7 with a long wingspan; don't know much about his defense but being that we are talking about the Suns, who cares about defense (this is a joke). I guess the intriguing part about this is that he is still 24 yrs old and he has potential to blossom into a real nice role player. I don't think that he was giving a good opportunity with the sixers and wolves, plus what do they know about developing players.

Rodney Carney can be a good asset to what the Suns want to accomplish with their renew system. I’m not saying that they Carney is going to come into the Suns organization and automatically make them a contender, but he can be someone who comes in and contributes on any giving night.

This is what they said of him when he came into the league…..

Strengths: Highlight reel waiting to happen ... One of the most athletic players in all of college basketball Jump shot has improved ... Big upside Long and lean Very versatile Great elevation on jumper which is nearly impossible to block Confident Good poise Pesky defender Blankets defenders with his long arms and quick feet Anticipates well and plays the passing lanes for steals ... Really gets up and grabs rebounds Excellent speed and quickness

Weaknesses: Needs to add strength, put time in the weight room and bulk up some ... Can be prone to taking bad shots at times Forces shots Must become better at handling the ball and creating offense for himself ... Settles with the outside shot instead of trying to get something easier Lacks great vision and passing ability ... Needs to shoot with more consistency Can be too reliant on his athleticism ... Needs to get a little tougher on the court ... Too right hand dependent, needs to become better at handling with his left hand ...

Basically, he’s going to be a player that can change the game with an amzaing play. I guess a better Gerald Green.

Your thoughts??

a) Can't believe you compared him to Gerald Green, he's a much better player, doesn't have the terrible attitude, and he's going to stay in the league for a while.

b) Our wing is stacked, especially at the F position with Hill/Clark/Dudley/Pavlovic (G/F)/Tucker. We don't need any more G/F's unless we dump Richardson for nothing.

c) We don't have enough to sign him, he's going to get around 3mil/year, and we don't need his services with all the wings we have.

I'm still waiting for Wafer to sign with PHX. He's the SG I would like to have off the bench.

Looks like the Knicks are going after him with the bi-annual exception as well.

I don't understand all the love for a SG. We currently have Richardson starting, Barbosa off the bench, and not to forget Pavlovic is still not bought out, meaning he might go into TC with us and play for us. Also, Tucker can play SG for us too. So, what's all the love to get yet another SG on this roster? We don't have a need for one. We need Centers, true defensive centers, and a 3rd string PG.

sd1306 I'm with you there. If we make any more moves I would hope that it would be for a decent center, not that I'm really down on Lopez because I think he surprise a lot of people this year with his improved play. I also believe though that we do need a quality back up/starter to help with his developement.

YES! That's EXACTLY what we need right now, another SG/SF to share minutes with Richardson, Barbosa, Hill, Dudley, Clark, Pavlovic, and Griffin.......

We need a center.

How would this discussion be any different than the Hakim Warrick thread?

I don't get you guys...

He'd be nice to get but how are we going to get him? There are plenty of players that would be nice to add to our roster but the odds of it happening are slim to none.

The Suns already are full at the SF spot with Hill and Dudley.

Yes! Another PF to share minutes with Amare, Frye, Amundson, and Clark!!!!

You have got to be kidding me people. Not that I don't like the guy, but we are pretty much stacked from SG-PF, what we need is a Center that is better then Lopez that can start for us.

MUCH rather sign Carney than any other scrub tweener out there. At least he has upside, youth and athleticism - and an improving 3 point shot

I'm all for it

Sarcasm. For that lame thread about trading LB for Hakim Warrick. I thought it was funny...

I like Carney more than Warrick for the same reason - outside shooter and can develop into a strong defender.
I agree we need a big - but since no-one seems to fit our needs why not stockpile cheap talent with our last spots?
Also if we are full-on run and gun, we can throw bodies at other teams - just go flat-out 48 minutes
